well, yes and no. I don't really use reverb all that often - I'm a delay-man. And it was really just a quick sketch. Usually I slap a saturator on the track and call it a day, really, haha..... erhm..

Also, I wanted to upload the track as .als, so it has to at least play on a normal computer

Right, in this the *final* version of this track (so far) I've tweaked a bunch of stuff, there are a few more interesting drum things and fx going on, and I've had a go at properly "mastering" the track using reverb/comp/sat.

I asked, and you delivered the goods. Sounds like some DnB, Mick Harris style, dark, moody, scarry, and atmospheric. No Amen! I'm sick and tired of the Amen sound. The techy DnB is what I really like and this is it right here!

Got anymore tunes like that?

If you want just replace the beats with some heavy duty samples and you got yourself there a killer track.

Machinate please give us the low down on your dnb track in your footer. What you used to make it (obviously operator) but what else?

For example did you just start putting midi note in a track and go from there? how to you change the beat so smoothly, do you hit the next midi track?

Also how you went about playing/editing it?

:edit: and do you think it's possible to make d'n'b out of field recordings?

Not really, no, but I only just got into tech DnB... I'm a cut-up ragga junglist fiend, though

And I mostly do downtempo dubby/IDM stuff.

BUT: I've been meaning to do a drum-n-bass track for our SoundWrecks demos. I reckon that should be the next project for me.

Only Operator and Live FX... You can find the live song at the top of the thread. Feel free to remix it and play about.

I started by programming a basic drum beat, then I did the bassline (the subby one that runs throughout the track). Then added some pads, finished off with synthey bleeps, etc. I spent most of my time tweaking the drums, actually, doing little fills and such. All the fills were done by consolidating midi parts in arrangement view and messing about with the midi.

Oh, absolutely! It will be difficult to do tight, clean tech stuff, but hard/trashy Rum and Ass, sure! I'd love to hear it actually

Here's a track I just can't seem to mix right. It's a messy messy jungle track, one brother short of an Amen - and yes, it's supposed to be messy, but the mix should still be good:
