all samples were loaded directly into live's tracks. i have yet to find a reason to use a sampler when live is this good at handling audio.

well then, maybe try loading all these samples in a sampler (kontakt, halion...), put several instances of the same samples, change the start points, and play with that.
you'll probably start to feel what i mean by "more crazyness".

launching sounds with keys and droping audio files are 2 completely different things.

first of all, my pc would choke, hit me in the balls and die if i loaded all those samples in severeal instances of kontakt. not to mention halion. secondly... i don't know about that crazyness you're talking about. i actually wanted the song to be reeeeaaaaally mellow and easy and i feel it's a bit crazy the way it is...

I think its a great track, well done, the only thing I think you could work on are the hats etc, and I aint feeling the piano chords in it.

about using a sampler, you only need 1 instance of konatkt or halion to play all these samples using multiple midi tracks. but that's another topic...

I seriously think you need to sort out your usage of warp modes though. Every track Ive heard from you has this tremolo thing happenin' on certain sounds. Complex mode/bounce is your friend.

Let me say, as others have mentioned you should certainly fool around with some syncopation if you really want a "groove" or funky feeling. Also, this piece doesn't have much compositionally to do with jazz. You could use a more elaborate chord progression going through different keys, and get a nice melody to reflect the key changes. Chord substitutions are also something to think about, but if you only have a limited understanding of jazz theory you might want to save that for later.

Considering what you said about your musical background, this is a very good first swing though.

lightshy is getting some bollocks of here, and its better and more adventurous, not to mention harder than most of the turd breakbeat attempts that are usually posted on this forum that get a great response day in and day out. Dont feel discouraged cos I think you're onto a winner if you take some of the more helpful advice of this thread.

thank you all so much. you've given some really golden pieces of advice. as for the structure not being really jazzy, well, i'm not all that surprised. as i've mentioned before, i have no musical training whatsoever, let alone jazz theory. i did everything by ear and thought 'if it sounds good, it must be good'

it's actually my best friend. i use complex mode all the time, and i bounce pretty much everyhting. and i really don't know why you hear that tremolo thingy...

actually, thats a little smidgen of jazz theory right there.

so, i should take up serious reading. are there any tutorials, any 'jazz for dummies' ebooks i can read? post any link you think could help me.
