I like Stew's scene-time-signature idea.

There seems to be a nice space in the scene 'clip' section to put in some of this sort of options... Perhaps a type of clip which allows you to drag in 6/8, 4/4, 11/16 into the scene 'clip' box.


Double clicking on this box could then bring up the options...like the time signature, tempo, etc.

The 'scene' clip could also have other useful things, like 'loop twice then move to next scene' type automation... or start at 120bpm and go to 100 bpm in 4 bars.

It seems an obvious and clear place to put this information.


I think this may work for most users pretty well, it allows changing of time signatures in performance.

seems like we have been hasing this one around for a while now..
Still ..to me need to have alternate time signatures available in the arrange window for this reason..
If the exhisting song I want to import contains 1 measure that is not the start measure the whole concept of random access to a spot and time streching a complete composition goes out the window.
The clips window might be a good or even great place to have those manipulatives as well but would noty help in trying to liveize a song or classical composition that has other than 1 single time signature.
Hope the team would consider adding this flexability .
It would totally open the software to use in even more amazing ways.

ah yes podprod, I didnt think of that...this unearths a much deeper problem....

where a single clip needs to contain different time signatures.

Anybody got some ideas here?

Appreciate thoughts from the ablexperts out there.
If Live had extended time signature meaning 4/4 for a few measures then 3/8 then 2/4 then back to 4/4 again..meaning a way to make each measure in the tracks window be a seperate time signature then and only then will re wire midi work and lock so the master /slave relationship measure numbers meet..
Really feel that this might solve the main midi point I see s a flaw in rewire using this great profram.
With alternate time signatures then we could use logic,cubase,sonor(not reason as it does not allow multiple time signatures) and the like without having to be stuck with a system that does not work in terms of measure numbers locking in rewire or even when hooking up mtc.
Sorry to ramble.
Hope that team ableton might consider adding multiple time signatures.
Seems like an easy one but it is really one that I think long term could benefit a GREAT many users .
The one time that you need this feature is the time that it will become clear how important it is.

Well it's been some time since this was discussed here. I didn't see multiple time signatures implemented in version 3. Rewire will only be useful to me once this is implemented. I really thought LIVE was going to be a great live tool for live electronic music, but, for those of us doing something with mixed meters (multiple time signatures), LIVE is useless. I regret having invested in it now though it will be a nice toy to play with for mixing certain non-metrical things. I was going to make it the main performance software for my virtual opera, but my music is too metrically and rhythmically varied for LIVE. I'm going to have to see if I can get LOGIC to do the job...

I'm wondering what have you folks who posted earlier this year done in the meantime to make metrically interesting music? What software have you used? And what have you used for live performance?
