I bought the ER-20's because of a thread on here.

I would NOT recommend them. The attenuation is good and sound quality with them in is pretty good. But, the plastic shaft that sticks out of them is really long and too hard a material (just look at the picture and you see what I mean). They go in pretty far AND the shaft sticks out alot when you have them in. One good hit to the side of the head with them in at a club or moving around on stage and I think that would be enough to jam the thing straight through your eardrum.

Makes me cringe just thinking about it. If I snipped the end off I might use them, but I'm not sure what that does to their effectiveness.

I think go custom or just rough it and use foam ones that aren't so physically dangerous. I've been just using the green expandable foam (factory worker) earplugs until I find a good pair.

i wish i had used earplugs earlier because now i have a constant ringing (tinnitus)in both my ears as like after a loud house party/concert. I used to play in bands and later on stage with a laptops and i liked to play haaaard! and bougt headphones which could go up to 130db just because i liked to produce and listend music very haaard!
and YES....the ringing is VERY irritating! and NO.....it will never go away anymore!

so people....PLEASE use earplugs expecially DJ,S with headphones and drummers with loud monitoring on one side. The best earplugs i know and also use are these.....ZEM....expecialy for musicians.

I found a place that sent me the stuff to make my own impressions/molds of my inner ear for me to ship back to them to make the custom plugs. Just sent my impressions off yesterday... they were easy enough to do. Here is the link:

Can't wait to get mine. Tired of my head ringing on Sundays!

don't look under physicians...probably won't be there. check under "hearing" or "hearing aids". you'll find that some of these hearing aid places are audiology centers as well. are you in nyc? there's a place that specializes in musicians earplugs right in midtown..
