Sometimes, deep into the night, I hear a train whistle(more ike a horn really). But I don't live near any train tracks, I'm sure of it. I think it might be some sort of ghost train. 8O

there are more than a few pc laptops with 6 pin firewire, do some research if you want one. but as others said, a whole new computer is not necessary--the ups sounds like a smart fix to me.

Unfortunatelly some are without power other without TI chip (Samsung) which makes them equally useless

from the headline of your post i thought you were seeing if other Live users take shelter by train tracks.

since you're not homeless, i'll also advise a ups.

My apartment is in a warehouse that has tons of power surges and brown-outs. My gear is all connected to a UPS that is plugged into a power conditioner. I'm certain that without this combination, my gear would be useless to me.
I live near a train, also, BUT it's not close enough to affect anything "electronically" unless you count my microphone picking it up.

When I hear the train by my house, I get to imagine cases & kegs & bottles of beer cuz it's the train for the big Anheuser-Busch brewery in Saint Lous.
Yummy train.
Hey OK so there's better beer in the world than Budweiser, but sometimes a beer is just beer, eh?
Yum train.

Try using a different FW cable. Unfortunately, a lot of FW cable manfacturers produce cables where, when coupled with specific case designs on computers and external gear, the housing doesn't allow the plug enough length to allow full contact with the jack.

It that doesn't work, try exorcism.
