Just moved from FLStudio to Live5!!!
So what do people use to build the loops on a Mac?
I stumbled onto Live while trying to find a FL-alike for OSX, and I've gotten completely lost in it... What an amazing piece of software. I'm an electronic drummer, and it does all kinds of things that I'd thought must be possible, but could never find a way to do....
But a couple of people have mentioend that they build their loops in FL before bringing them to live -- can anyone recommend good OSX software for doing the same thing?
thanks,
fnord

no problems here, though I've only tried things in a few specific ways. I always use Live as the host, FL as the rewire client. For various reasons (lack of true midi "select on launch" which kills live looping for me), I'm still using Live 3.0.2 (2.0.3 also worked great). I've used FL 3, FL Studio 4, as well as FL STudio 5 with no problems. I use FL strictly for drums (I've tried using vsti to record as audio in Live, but there is an issue with the first beat or so of the signal from FL getting slowed and stuttered). I use the FL step seq. for my beats, with 64 steps, set to loop through one sequence over and over, and a dummy track with like 40 minutes of blank piano roll so that it will keep looping through the step seq. for a long time. As I mentioned, I use multiple rewire out channels for FL to seperate my drum sounds (kicks, snares, hats, etc.). I honestly have never had a single problem with FL using this setup--it responds flawlessly to tempo changes in Live, it is great. The only thing I've bumped into on one "studio" track I was working on is changing time signatures in the middle of a song with LF rewired--doesn't seem to work, so I had to essentiall treat it as two songs and edit them together in Live. just my 2 cents, and surely other setups might cause issue, but this method works for me.tomperson wrote: The combo is excellent. I love fruity's step sequencer for programming drum loops. I've had problems with it rewired though. I wonder If i'm the only one with those problems...

I love recycle... it is practically required if you want to play with stylus rmx for anything other than presets. I cannot remember the last time I loaded up reason to use dr. rexfn0000rd wrote:Reason seems like it could be a lot of overkill for cutting up loops, but I'd be the first to admit being wrong about that, I haven't used it much.
Does anyone use ReCycle?
Hmmm... It seems weird that Recycle won't load .mp3 files. I've got some reggae tracks that I want to snag some vocals from, but it won't even load the files, and I really don't want to have to dump to .wav just to cut up a loop.
I guess I could just do some initial cutting in Audacity, then dump the bits to .wav, then load them in ReCycle, but that just gets to be nuts.

Hi Ryan - I remember you helping me out about 18 months ago when I first hooked FL Studio into Live. Still following your advice, cheers.quandry wrote:I use the FL step seq. for my beats, with 64 steps, set to loop through one sequence over and over, and a dummy track with like 40 minutes of blank piano roll so that it will keep looping through the step seq. for a long time. So: you create a dummy track with 40mins of piano roll to endlessly loop your FL pattern? Why not just run FL in pattern mode, instead of song? Unless you want a specific number of loops, that does the trick. Even then you can always kill the signal in the relevant Live tracks can't you.
I'm still running the two connected via MIDI OX, but I don't hear you mentioning that now. As I never really understood what was going on with the routing here, do I still need to be doing so?
As I understand it, the only reason for doing this is so that I can use my controller in both programmes at the same time. I just seem to end up blindly mapping everything in FL Studio to MIDI YOKE 1 ...
If i try to simply route FL MIDI to Ozone in and out, would that still do the trick?
Is the MIdi Yoke mapping only necessary if i want to run audio into different tracks in Live, as you do?
Also, Ryan a reminder for me here: I remember you saying that there was a way to preserve the MIDI settings on FL Studio. Whenever I open up it reverts to default, and I have to reselect 'Allow Remote Control' and route the Midi In & Out to MIDI Ox. You know what I should be doing instead??
Cheers pal, still reaping the benefit!
