On one hand there is paranoia, but on the other hand there are places in Africa that deny AIDS even exists.

Funny how scared the World is on this and the most dangerous virus on the Earth at this moment is probably AIDS. We still fuck like rabbits and many still do not rubber up. It is totally invisible, but everywhere. I know a few people who have HIV and not gay and look perfectly healthy. So watch out for those birds.

Probably I think should be replaced in the above sentence with "definitely". In some African countries, the infection rate is as many as 1 out of every 4 people. However, I believe that since the disease itself is easily preventable, and that it effects an outside segment of the population from the mainstream voice in western countries, the publicity of it's impact is rather understated in the press. AIDS has been a widely known cultural phenomenon since the 80's, and I think after 20 years the general consensus (at least in america) is that it's a gay/african problem.

What I find really appalling are the religious nutballs who claim that the virus was sent by their god to kill gays and other sexual deviants. Of course, some of them said the same thing about hurricane katrina in new orleans, despite the fact that the lustful french quarter was one of the few areas of the city not destroyed by the storm. :)

I know we are worried about the bird flu virus to mutate from human to human, but what I ask is why has it not mutated to other forms of wildlife, even other birds like pigeons as well? Seems so far mainly in chickens and ducks if I am not mistaken.. If it were to mutate to cattle or other animals I would be very concerned.

but my opinion is based on the recent history of such epidemics, so you
can see why I might be cynical. Consider mad cow disease, SARS
SARS I see as a test run..... Everyone that knew anything knew that it didn't
have the infection and mortality rates to go very far....... but the people
who have to deal with this sort of thing saw it as a perfect chance to test
and improve procedure.... Especially in south-east Asia where u can't really
rely on anyone to follow procedure and do things right.

Since then many countries have got much better at managing borders when
faced with this kind of thing. Remember the IR thermometers that were
scanning everyone... Lots of good came outta SARS.

If you are worried abiut dieing why not tajke stock of the highest risk first..
things like 40% will die from heart disease
then the list drops down in %'s
FUD.. stands folr Fear Uncertainy and Doubt.
all this hype and thats what it is about Bird Flu and OSX virus's is just spreadind a ton of Fear Uncertainy and doubt.
You are more likely to die of a heart attack because you are stressed out about getting bird flu or run over by a bus as you are not thinking due to worry about and not paying attention than dieing from something that doesn't exist..
People should just get on with life and not get freaked out one day you will die and the chances of it being from BF is about 0-0001% isn't there enough to worry about than this sort of stuff..
1 thing that is funny is that they tell use to be fit and healthy yet reports tell us the people with a strong immune system will be the first ones to die if this BF jumps..

so the senario is be unhealthy and get heart disease and die or stay fir and die if the bird flu jumps and you get it..

lets get back to the music and drop this FUD out of our forums guys

thing that spun me out is here in Queensland the statistic is apparently 33% - one in 3 to get skin cancer

that's huge

It would seem to be statistically better for your health to avoid fatty foods, smoking and alcohol then it would be to avoid chicken, anal sex and OS X.

Oh and forge, I didn't know that you could buy sunscreen up there.... it makes you less of a man or something like that? Seriously, how's QLD to live in? I always thought it would be a bit backwards (most of QLD is a tad olde style in their social attitudes.... only place in Australia to actively embrace slavery).

lol...well, Brisbane is like any urban center of close to 2 million people, with the added benefit of feeling a bit like a big country town - meaning people are actually nice to you and very laid back and the traffic is not too bad

It's bloody hot when the humidity's in it is quite unbearable, but winter is great

I think the slavery comment would be like asking a modern day New yorker the same thing

the only thing backwards is daylight savings!

ahhhhhhh that makes sense now so virus's started on Apples and then Steve delt to them and made it too hard so they made Windows so it was easier for virus writers who flocked to the new OS and now we are coming full circle as Windows gets zillions of virus's which they patch to death and 1000's of applications to kill them all now Apple maybe is getting easier to write for again ?
Nah I must stop smoking crack I think the only people attempting to write virus's for Apples are the Virus program manufacterers.. they just arnt doing too good a job so far..
that 0-49 known infections is just too low so they release there Bloggers which they have paid off to spread more FUD.. isn't life on the net great!
Oh hangon isnt Dyvorak saying the OSX is going to be removed and Windows will be on all new Apple comuters in the world inside the next year or 2 ?
