another good related book i've read is

"The Art of Mixing: A Visual Guide to Recording, Engineering, and Production by David Gibson"

uses visualiation techniques to organise your mixing, using shapes and 3D placement to create space etc within your tracks....

theres also a DVD available , though ive not seen this..

Yeah it does. That's one of the big sell point of this book to me. He speaks to people at all levels. Even though I know synthesis pretty well I enjoyed reading his take on it and learned a lot more. He gets deep in some of the areas too. I consider this a great reference manual no matter what your skill level is. There are other books that go a bit further about each particular thing but this one covers all aspects from theory to promotion and mastering.

Goes to my wishlist
Turn up the radio. Turn up the tape machine. Look into the sunset up ahead. Roll the windows down for a better taste of the cool desert wind. Ah yes. This is what it's all about. Total control now.
