Some more things from me: don't get shared memory graphics (like some cheaper Vaios have), take as much ram as you can afford (minimum 768 for Mac (the apple store is very expensive and other Ram works fine too), 512 for Windows (with a free slot if possible)). I have now 2 Vaios (VGNA-215 and PCGK-215S) and no Problems and great displays, witch is IMO very important when using it live.
i reccommend the fujitsu siemens lifebook.
screen resolution of 1400 by 1050, its well cool for lots of live space.
Whatever you get, if its a windows based - get a centrino, with an intel 915 chipset, the battery lasts for 5 hours, and the processor runs the speed step technology.
also get a cool laptop sound card like an Echo Indigo, or E-Mu 1616m.
I would advise you stay away from firewire devices, cos generally with laptops you cant use them without power cos the laptops only use 4 pin firewire - which voids the point of getting a laptop.
I had a vaio, and i will NEVER have one again. i cannot be bothered with instable hardware issues.
I had a toshiba, and i will have one again. Its great when they just work.
i have a Fujitsu Siemens, and this has been my best one. The PC POWER.
Also, FUJITSU SIEMENS is not aimed at the domestic market like all those at PC World. Go beyond that
