the answer to that is Multi-Client midi drivers.... Microsoft XP default drivers are not multi-client, so only one program can use the driver at a time. My stuff is from Evolution and luckily they released a multi-client driver to replace Microsoft's, so now I can use my UC/33, UC/16 and MK249C2 in many programs at the same time.

only option i can think of is tapping in the tempo as you record the first loop. but when people like kid beyond are doing it, he is making all the sounds with his mouth so the tempo is not relevant. only neccasary if you are using premade loops along with the live loops.
kid is definitely using and caring about the tempo. he had his metronome sound as a vocal tish-tish-tish-tish breathy sound, and has that play through the mains and then records other loops on top of that until you can't really hear it anymore. I prefer to use headphones to monitor the click for my duo's live looping performances. There is a
ton of info on these forums about live looping with Live, use the search function to find a bunch of threads on this. Here are some good ones:

rc-20 won't help you with Live, but you could sell it to by the 1010 (I sold mine after it gathered dust once I bought Live)
