The new one doesn't do dual layer DVDs?
Lame....
yeh that and the lack of fw800 are the only two negatives.

the dual layer wont fit, still too bulky.

Another reason to hold out for the next revision of powerbooks is simply because IMO Apple are going to release revisions EVERY time Intel puts out a new chip! They definitely have dammed good reasons to keep up with Dell,Compaq, and Gateway now, no smoke and mirrors hides the fact that the latest chip will be the fastest.

Merom is due out sometime in the third quarter of 06, early fourth quarter. Should be 64 bit 2.5Ghz dual core etc.

If you going to get a MacIntel, skip the MacMini! Get the highest iMac you can get. I maxed out an iMac 20'' and the AJPerformanceTest runs at about 23-25%.

Worth every penny![/url]

like i said there has to be come kind of buyers bible in here. we keep getting the same questions...

CARDINAL RULE:

if you need a laptop right now GET ONE.

dont play the waiting game.

yonah is already a proven chip, theres no telling what could happen with Merom, what kind of troubles it may bring when portin them to actual apple computers, etc.

Agreed, and the other cardinal rule is BE INFORMED. There are quirks in this shit. Especially with Apple stuff. To hark back to the Tibooks, little things like the Rev2 550 and 667 were far worse for audio performance than the Rev1 500.

I've got 3 Tibooks all in various states of dis-repair: one has no FW, the other no LCD, and the third a broken hinge. But its working fine for now, I can make music and do gigs, but I will definately get a Macbook, cos I want Live to run like it does on my friends PC.

Very glad to hear you're having no probs, Digi V.

one thing i have noticed is that with laptops, a lot of people keep using them on their laps, or in bed.

this is a cause for slower performance, hotter than normal laptops.

if you're going to mix, usually the best way to do this is on a desk.

yes i get lazy to and theres nothing better than laptop performance while laying down but if you find tthat your laptop is running hot or slow its best you get it cooled on a desk, open area.
