Wahh, the gui isnt pretty enough.

Sorry, but function beats the living shit out of form here.

AdamJay has it right, who fucking cares what your words look like, when you can video conference from half the world away?

Wah wah wah.

Wah wah wah.
and i dont see anything wrong with the gui.
it looks the same as Safari, and Finder, and all other Mac Apps.
i'd rather have that uniformity visually than some wierd customizable winamp wannabe ugliness.

http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/

Never use the default clients, for IM networks because they are installed on
so many machines they become a security risk whenever exploits come out
as the amount of targets is attractive to hackers.

Main feature I like other then being able to connect to all my accounts
(AIM, ICQ, MSN, Y!) with 1 program is that u can have 128bit encrypted
chat.

I'm not talking about pretty, I'm talking about functional and unobtrusive. Unobtrusive is essential for something like an IM client which you'll have running all the time, I reckon.

I disagree, Adam, that iChat looks likee Safari. The iChat conversation window wastes so much space cos of the 'bubbles' look where Mail, Safari etc are both incredibly lean and well thought out.

That's my contacts list in the right corner and a random opened window displaying some text from last chat with Ed (that's why it's grey). I don't think anyone could describe that as WinAmp like or ugly..

I can see why if you need video conferencing etc you can't use it, but for me who just does text chats and finds ftping files onto my server as easy as IM file transfers I think it's much better.

Trillian Rocks.

If only it could incorporate Skype too. Then I'd be in chat nirvana.

Just downloaded Adium. For text only, it is quite simply the best, no questions asked. As people have said, if you want other services, you'll need something else.

Does Gaim support file transfer?
Somewhat, yeah. As of 1.2.1 the following is supported:

Sending and receiving files on AIM (although it might be a bit buggy)
i dont care about the looks but thats not a ringing endorsement from their own webpage.
