m-audio kinda sucks but not to bad for the price
you get a good deal upgrading the lite versions
but AVID is a massive cooperation, and i'm really more into small buisness.
I have had very bad experience with m-audio tech support and am over all un happy with the digidesign interfaces i'v had all though i do like protools software.
M-Audio told me it was impossable to use the s/pdif in/out on my 410 to bus to external FX due to digital sync issue...now granted this my be true with their products. when i told them i can use s/pdif this way in my digi card, the reply was that it should not work, and they couldn't believe that it did?!?
wtf kind of bs is that?

i had a p4 2ghz 1 gig of ram xp pro audio tweaked PC, which was kept meticulously clean and only used for playing with sounds. Live 4 worked with it using monster amounts of vsts etc, also live 5 worked with bugs (that didnt effect audio output) for a while, then with 5.03 came the pops and glitches. Jesus loves me, so I came into some money and bought my way out of that mess....now I'm running a mac with a metric halo, bye bye maudio!IslandInTheDistance wrote:Ropey Punter: What Platform is your system that is getting pops and click on? MAc or PC?
i still use the pc to use my pc only vsts, but not using the ad/da's of the maudio device. anyways, truth be told the maudio device was fine until 5.03 came around...
at any rate, even tho I dont like the idea, i just threw more horsepower at live with better ad/da's and I will not concern myself with maudio stuff in the future
hmm
All my M-Audio gear, and I have a bunch of it has been %100 trouble free.

I am with ropey too, I do not like maudio stuff.
I own a midisport 2x2 and hey, every third time i turn the computer on window loses the drivers, I have to reinstall it. wft?
Window may not be the best OS, but the RME driver are always in place, and so were the creamware driver in my old desktop pc, never had to reinstall anything.

That's exactly why everyone looks up to RME and Creamware. In my previous post I mentioned stablility, and I can say confidently that these 2 companies are ahead of everyone else.minimal wrote:I am with ropey too, I do not like maudio stuff.

Still, both are aimed to the pro musician, and are way too expensive for most people. Then you look down to the semi pro gear (MOTU, Metric Halo, Edirol, M-Audio, Tascam, etc) and you find that M-Audio has the most stable drivers around. Sure, they are not perfect, but the drivers for most of their products are rock solid (unlike Motu that tends to be more stable in Mac than in PC, or Edirol). Also, they do driver updates very often.
I think that is what haves them selling thousands of gear pieces.
I've never had any real problems with my FW Audiophile, but agree with an earlier post about not wanting to use it in a live situation. Got my 1st few decent gigs coming up soon so will be looking to get a MOTU Ultralite to replace it.
I was initially looking into upgrading to the 410, but having joined this forum and had a good look about for info on it, I decided not to! Its gets a real slating by a surprisingly large amount of people (granted, there may be more users of it than other devices) for a number of different reasons.
The only thing that is tieing me to M-Audio is Pro Tools M-Powered as I am currently doing a number of post-pro projects for uni....

metric halo and maudio in the same sentence ? IN THE SAME CATEGORY ? ... that must be some kind of...lsd induced typo. Message me I'm looking for some...rbmonosylabik wrote:That's exactly why everyone looks up to RME and Creamware. I think that making these distinctions between "professional", "semi-professional", "prosumer", "consumer", etc are fairly meaningless personally.
Some of you are making those statements about M-Audio gear (and others) but I'll bet you don't like people describing Ableton Live as a "prosumer" loop composition tool any more than I do, or the suggestion that it is not as good as Sonar/Logic/etc simply because it is newer to the market.
Fact is, if you like it and it works for you that's enough. I think that many professionals take that view, anyway. ALl the professional musicians I know of tend not to be gear snobs so much these days - they leave a lot of that gear-lust rubbish to the aspiring want-to-be-professionals
Case in point - I run an M-Audio Ozonic (which is superb by the way
) and I was thrilled a few weeks ago to see Eurythmics appear with one on UK TV. If The Eurythmics can take Ozonic on stage, why should I be afraid to... apart from the fact that I'm not as good as them of course

Who knows? One thing's pretty much for sure - whether they were paid to or not I doubt they would risk their legendary status by going on stage with something they though was crap or potentially unreliableRopeyPunter wrote:and eurhytmics probably get paid to use it...really, they certainly didnt pay for it at the very least
