this can sound similar to a gate effect or compressor pumping if so desired, but this sort of sidechain ducking is mainly useful for keeping signals from stepping on each other...typically kiks and basslines, but it can be used for interest effect when applied correct to any signal- high hats used to duck/gate pads is another example...
