My advice:

Spend the two months it will take for the big price-drop/generation making friends who are knowledgable in computers or research the procedure several time, and then do what AJ said.

I'm scared too  but hopefully my smarty-pants bandmate isn't!

You could get a store to do it (or a knowledgable friend)... ask around you can almost always save a fair whack by not installing it at purchase time through Apple - they charge too much. Just make sure that whomever it is understands Mac's inside and out.

Also, after you get the machine, avoid looking at the specs for the machines Apple will release the day after you get it. ;) Avoid this for a few days/weeks/months until you are in love with your machine, and then it doesn't matter...

MAY 28th......

There will be a price drop. That's when i'm getting mine but it'll be the 2.16 because that one will have the largest price drop AFAIK/Read.

Plus i've learned if your getting a computer buy the FASTEST available at the time that you can afford.

Thanks for the headsup on RAM guys...

he doesn't. thats just when intel will start to drop prices as they introduce the 2.3

but that doesn't mean apple will drop.

the 2.3 might just come into the 17inch macbook pro if it is released at the same time the macbook's (ibooks) are .

so there wont be a technical price drop jsut a boost in speed.

so the 15nch pro line might come in 2.0 (being the lowest) 2.1 (the highest)

then the 17inch with 2.3

OK that makes sense. We'll see.

Is there anyone here who doesn't have the "whining" MacBook. And if so, what revision have they got?

mine wines at low activity levels such as just usin aim.

it was off the assembly line on the first of april.

the whine isn't that big of a concern, believe me.

i'm sure some kidn of software upgrade will eliminate this issue for good seeing it isn't a hardware problem
