I bought the laptop (only a few weeks old) from someone who needed cash real quick, because of some problems. I paid only 950euro (1160dollar), the newprice is over 2000euro (2400 dollar). I thought this was a bargain.
It has the 5400RPM drive, but I want to run all audio from my external Western Digital drive (7200RPM).
Is this a good solution or do I better upgrade to a 7200rpm internal drive? (If this is possible)
Thanks for the advice guys!
Is this a good laptop to run Live5.2 on?
Well, that depends on your external drives connection. I run a lot of my stuff from a Western Digital 160GB FireWire Drive & everything seems to run just fine... However, i have run tests with the USB2.0 connection just to compare, but ended up switching straight back to FW once i saw how long it took to load up full songs into Live.
That being said, when using Live in a 'light' production mode (for short clips/loops etc.), i don't think you'd notice any major differences when using USB2.0 in comparison to FireWire or even your laptop's 40GB drive.
