where do my loops come from ?
some of them have just been found on internet (especially hiphop rythmic loops)
some of them are build using reason's redrum : jungle/drum n'bass rythmic loops
** my drum sounds have been sampled from several machines (909, Korg er-1), found somewhere on the web, or just taken from reason's soundbank
**
Atmospheric / ambient loops are found sampling CD, movies... Or built using Fruity Loops Studio (using wave exportation template).
Bass lines and lead synths come direclty from reason in rewire mode, and are not looped ; i use UC-33 to control them.
hope it will help

I personally think reason/recycle changes all this - while i do agree with what you're saying insofar as using loops in a sampler-style, loop-the-whole-loop way, but i rarely use whole loops any more and listen to them for thier components/slices as i know i will only use bits of them , or i will heavily alter/effect it
I think loops these days are raw materials, like paints or clay, there are loads of techniques. you sound like what you do is like collage, keeping the source materials intact, but mixing them up and making them something unique , whereas i would tend to do it more like sculpture or papier mache, mushed up materials from every where that create a texture which i then paint with extra sounds - excuse the wanky art analogy, (but then music is supposed to be art, isn't it?)
have you tried reason 2.5 yet? the scream 4? then the inputs on the malstrom filters?and then there's live's fx and pitching and what they do.
Man, i would say i agree about using records etc as far as giving it personality etc, (but it does depend on the style you're creating), and i like trying to create deeply primeval rhythms out of mushed up futuristic sounds, and to me that can use any loop at all, as long as the rhythm is right, cause it's going to end up completely different ! so i dont agree that sample cds are useless....
cheers, and happy looping!

1. From Records, CD´s, or any other medium that carries pre-recorded music.
2. Make your own.
FORGET
Sample CD´s because (and I kid you not) Its to easy and doesnt encourage sampling, or musicianship, but most importantly you will never really get an original sound and ultimately your music will sound unfinished, artificial, and perhaps slightly amatuerish if all your music comes from sample loops from CD´s. Its difficult to explain. But there is an immense satisfaction finding and sampling your own loops. You end up not being so dissmissive of the loops that you have made or found yourself unlike a sample cd which could have thousands of loops.
When making your own loops this can be from a combination of drum machine, mixed with various percussion noises, and at times a sampled loop in the backround holding it alltogether.
If you go down the sample CD route, remember what I said in this forum
