It's funny...

ive got subscriptions to keyboard and remix.
and now ive gota free one for tape op!
its all toilet reading for me.

basically, patton says he writes for his bands, and records on whatever is available,
hangs with zorn alot and likes wierd sounds.
no great insights, but a decent interview.
tape op is my favourite, but it definitely is geared toward indie rock bands.
it has become a bit more diverse as of late, tho...
but it ain't got nothing on this forum as far as electronic music goes.

I understand about 40% of it and love all of it. I store them in the studio just for reference.

audio technology, for those of you who know the book mixing with your mind, stav has a regular column in this cheap and tasy mag. not sure if you get it outside australia.

Yeah! What's up with that? Ever since they went to DVD the quality of the freebies has really suffered. I haven't found any interesting sounds or free Vst's since they switched formats. Without a doubt THE WIRE is the most inspiring music mag i read/sub to
i suspect a lot of those music tech mags are, in the end,
about creating wants rather than inspiring creative needs....

For me, Music tech and computer music. I found sound on sound a little dull in parts...
For music reviews and general DJ stuff, DJ magazineis cool. Been reading that for over 5 years. The T-scan section is good, but not always as in depth as I'd like. Plus given the fact I DJ solely from Ableton, a lot of reviews are interesting but kinda obsolete to me.

Should have qualified myself for chosing Computer Music as my favorite, I've only been messing around with making my own music for the last two years and CM has been a staple for me to understanding how things do and can work in the computer music realm...it's a HUGE reason why I use Ableton Live 5 now.
I've read Music Tech also and wasn't as impressed...just let my Electronic Musician subscription expire as there was maybe one 2 page ariticle per issue that I was even interested in.

what's a magazine? you mean like articles on the internet? heh.
Tape Op by far is the best read and most inspiring to make music. if there is someone in there who i respect i dont expect to lose that respect by reading them rant about how YOU need ProTools and an SSL and this and that to make music. plus if there is someone i dont know i usually end up liking them and respecting them as professionals
