How long did we think something as cool as the internet has been could last in today's shit climate? Everything these days (since around 2000) just goes from bad to worse, like a bad makeover. Even most of the music I hear anymore seems like uninspired regurgitated filler.

The end times?????

I sure hope so.

I have given up letting myself feel shitty when some new bullshit comes along thanks to some extremely gifted assholes, of which there are countless specimens. No use worrying about things over which one has no control. Just follow the Tao and be as much like water as possible, always adapting, always finding new solutions, new ways of dealing with jerk-offs and their nefarious activities while staying true to your own way of life.

they will eat themselves.

All this shit is really just external. Remember if you have your health and your sanity, you have everything.

well said !

Sad thing is this is one of the less intrusive laws.....

They've been trying to pass some really nasty stuff when it comes to the
web.... Especially against adult sites..... u know they actually pulled 7 CIA
analysts off anti-terror and put them on anti-porn...... because porn in the
eyes of Bush is a bigger threat then terror..... Shows just how big a joke the
war on terror is eh.

that to me has always been the most bizarre and absurd thing about american lead modern culture - that naked bodies and sex - which is an essential part of life - is actually considered more offensive than over the top sickening violence.

Kids actually can see pictures of people bliowing each other to pieces far more readily than they can see a sex scene in a movie

honestly, this doesnt surprise me in the least, but like Ben just said about moving to the EU - America is not the only place on earth and people will just look elsewhere

Thing that showed that to me the most clearly was a thread on a major
adult webmaster forum.......

These are ppl that have seen everything, most of us in that industry have
seen all the worst videos out there. There isn't very often that someone
shows me a gross video that hasn't been thru the webmaster community
years back. It's kinda a way to desensitise yourself so u can deal with all
kindas different content regardless of your personal tastes.

One day a euro webmaster posted a pic of a naked chick walking down a
busy arcade with kids around in the middle of the day.

The US webmasters went ballistic. People who run bondage or gagging
sites, people who know there is nothing wrong with a lil consensual
strangulation, were up in arms about kids seeing this naked woman. The
Euro webmasters just couldn't understand what the problem was.... Heaps
better for a kid to see some tits then the inside of someones head.

Are you taking the piss? I hope you're taking the piss.

Nope..... Amazing eh.....

Webmasters generally are really tight bout anything that might bring the
industry into disrepute.... Which kinda explains it.... The US webmasters
were thinking "This is just the kind of stuff that gets us in trouble".

At the end of the day it just shows how closed attitudes bout sex are in the US tho.

As an industry we've been facing these kind of laws for years, stuff like
COPA (Child Online Protection Act) and it's cousins.... Bills that shutdown
everyones freedom in the name of protecting children when really doing
nothing to protect anyone..... Good thing is a lot of them have been
defeated in the past... It's getting worse all the time tho. Just recently
there was a change to Title 18 ~ 2257 which made the record keeping for
models impossible..... So far the court battles are looking promising (thanx
to FreeSpeechCoalition and others).

u know the day after 9/11 there were a few senators going around juicing it
up as being porn sites who funded the attacks...... They are obsessed.

The Republican Right wing always talk this fake shite about 'small governance' and freedom of the individual, libetarian values etc, but basically they like control... they like to keep the small people in their place..

"Terrorism" really is the Perfect Threat. You can do anything with it... It's like something out of Nineteen-Eightyfour, really.

Can somebody explain in laymans' terms WHY this bill was important? It seems that I just don't get it. So what if certain corps want to sell their bandwidth to the highest bidder? That just seems to make sense. If I was a net infrustructure investor I wouldn't go and increase bandwidth capability if I was forced to dole it out like charity money.

So, if you want to expand the internet in the future, it seems that this bill was counter-productive to investment incentive. As it stands, I really don't see why this was such a bad thing to happen, and I would like somebody to rationalize it to me if possible.

Thanks

if america wanna put an ethernet cable up their ass thats fine, but what most people forget is that the internet is not regulated by america and is not something which can be controlled.

USA, create all the laws you want, but dont expect the rest of the world to follow.

this all reminds me of AOL and their closed off internet system, but done on a national scale... and look what happened to AOL.. everyone wanted the FREE internet (not montary free but psychological).

Nowdays with WIFI here, and Wimax around the corner, expect lots of private little internets to pop up.

Back to bbs days.

Yeah, they're not going to succeed because there are people like you and me (and those far more resourceful, obviously) who won't stand for it.
