Although, I must say that the onboard DSP stuff doesn't appear to be available when you're using an S/PDIF input... just discovered that.hereschenes wrote:As you pointed out, the onboard DSP effects most certainly do go to the outputs, except for the reverb effect.

Uggggggggg, soundcards.......the never-ending battle for almost all of us.
Someone mentioned it's a crapshoot, that is true. Allot of the time, you can hear one person say "it's great" and one to one another will say "it sucks".......
I have the traveler right now. I must say, that on my macintel, it's solid. I have not had any real trouble with it.
I don't like cuemix, I think the preamps are WAY to sensitive (clip to easy), but it's not giving me grief like some other (you guess which one
) fw units did.
Again, I have a hard time believing so many of us are having this much trouble getting it right...........

IT WORKS GREATDeadlyKungFu wrote:It's a crapshoot. I bought a Presonus Firebox, it wouldn't play correctly, it would insert very brief silence every measure with every audio app I tried. This is with a $1900 HP DV8000t laptop. I tried for a week to get it to work. I'm getting an Edirol UA101 tomorrow, I'm going to sit in the shop and install and try it just to make sure and save myself a drive back to the store.
The Firebox seemed like a great device, GREAT build quality, nice selection of in/outs in a compact firewire powered unit.
Maybe your computer is crap

that is true except you have the money to go RME.
i newer ever have seen anyone complaining about RME / or actually Metric Halo as well, considering the money you pay you get the best sounding, best built, best looked after (drivers / control panels) soundcard(s) on the market.
if you don't have the money for either of those brands, you are in trouble what to choose, that's right. there seems to be a big hole around the about 200 - 600 dollar range.
my question was regarding the saffire. Are we talking about the Saffire or Saffire LE?

thats a lot of positives for the firebox..! should be here soon let you know what i reckon...
we're using a motu 2408mk3 & 828mk2... also a 1224 which is not in use. a strange things with the 2408: always changing its word clock setting on its own... apart from that no complaints. the 1224 on the other hand always made this terrible intermittant buzzing sound from its internal psu. i dont think it affected performance but it was loud enough to be annoying.
tech support at motu is not so great... can be a bit rude, almost arrogant. strange behaviour seeing as we pay them 1000's to use their stuff. os x drivers took a VERY LONG time to appear...
