I never understand replies like this. If you don't want to help why post at all?

I am usually at the forefront of wanting to help people, but when a thread is started like this one where someone has failed to read the fucking manual there is only one answer.

when the opening state ment from the author contains "tried to crossfade but sounds awfull" and "why not use cubase to DJ"

The author has clearly not read the manual, taken any tutorials, or even used cubase or any other sequencer for that matter when he also states that "live is just a sequencer".

i am happy someone started this thread. lots of useful information cause i want to get into dj'ing with live too.
d das, thanks for the link to that tutorial. that's the extra help i needed after messing around a bit.

dj'ing with live is easier than i thought - it's the first night i try it and it's loads of fun. downside is that everybody can dj now so it will take some practice to do something *outstanding*

Thats the key, anybody can now mix two tunes together and present a dj set using live, ypu get people that caught on quick and just mix tunes together like they would on vinyl using only a mouse and it is worth saying that these people wont have a big DJ careers.

I dj with live, but i do use a few midi controllers and i am doing a lot more than what can be achieved using decks, i am a very busy dj who has a good stage presence, and thats what being a dj is all about.

A good Dj has the gift of being able to choose and mix 2 or more tracks to create another sounding track, this is athe case if using traktor, live decks, etc etc.

If you cant do that, you wont be a Dj.

I Can mix using vinyl BTW

I just prefer live for shear fuctionality during a live set.

now i know how to beatmatch tracks.
but what's the trick to change tempo during the set?
right now i stop a song - change bpm on the top left and trigger the next one -
are there other ways?

second (if you don't mind)
i remember a thread about a site with loads of a cappella stuff... the topic seems to be gone? does anyone remember that url ?

if you name a scene "85 BPM" and launch it, the BPM will change to 85.
I assign an encoder to the BPM control and change it that way.

As i have been accused of not being helpful - if you want to change the tempo all you need to do is hold a click on the tempo (top left hand corner) and move he mouse up or down. This changes the tempo. Another way is to assign a midi control from a midi controller to the tempo.

This can be done to anything that has numbers in it.

i decided to stick to sequencing with live.
i never wanted to be a dj anyways.

The best way to learn how to DJ with Live, is to learn how to DJ with vinyl first.


Once you have mastered the technical and timing aspects of vinyl mixing, the crossover to other mediums, such as CD players, Traktor or Ableton will be simple.

It means read the manual, the best advise for these questions, i was very nice about it, and i gave several full answers.

I dont see how i could be more helpful.

What to do -

Step 1, read the manual.
step 2, have a go at the tutorials.
step 3, ask us experienced users of the forum intellegent questions about things not covered in step 1&2.

What not to do -
come into the forum on day one and ask
what does warping do?
how do i change the tempo?
why use live to DJ?
How do i record a track?

etc etc.

The tutorials that open automaticaly when you first open live are exceptionally good - and they teach you all of the basics very quickly.

So please - DONT CALL ME UNHELPFUL, BECAUSE ITS THE BEST HELP YOU WILL FIND.

agreed...

also, sometimes the manual is too much and I do not have enough context to understand as it assumes some basic knowledge I don't have or the explanation just ins't clear, or I am just not getting it. Sometimes a one sentence answer does more good than the manual.

Why have you quoted what i said, DELETED the helpful bit, and then accuse me of not being helpful.
