Just an observation... draw your own conclusions.
Except the British perspective usually invloves talking about what the Americans are doing and how they are going to react.

For anyone busy slammin' Dubya and the Good Ole U S of A (which is undoubtedly FAR from perfect)... I'd be looking elsewhere for other baddies, too... the quiet ones... the ones that have the potential to make Bin Laden/Al-Qaeda/etc look like schoolboy bullies, and make today's terrorist atrocities pale into insignificance...

Ah. The moral of a south park episode (I'm a little bit country....)
I cant even relate to that on the level you guys see it.
My country is so insignificant small, that loving or hating it is futile...
I've grown to appreciate it more over time though.
By todays standards, i virtually live in one of the safest places on earth.
I watch all that fear mongering from a distance. And thru the medium of lots and lots of comedy and satire, I can get a realistic view whats going on.
I've said it before, how f'ed up is the world if you need to get your news from "fake" news shows? (which ironically get aired on CNN over here)
Discussing this subject on the level you guys discuss it goes beyond me. But at least i don't feel ignorant towards the subject.
Gotta see that Gore Movie though.
Sounds like thrilling and action packed Al gore lectures with video
All I wonna know is when i can grow coconuts in Belgium. I'll export them as choconuts to the british and japanese and make a fortune

M.A.D. ain't that different from MAD!!!
IMO, the effects of anyone launching any kind of nuclear strike anywhere in the world will have devastating consequences on the rest of the planet. What's ironic is that the same US government that everyone slams is arguably the biggest deterrent stopping this from happening!
Edit: And they still use their corporate-Middle-Eastern-oil-based-plastic cheap computers to make music... more irony (or is that hypocrisy?)

maybe so...but you can actually criticise the likes of Kim Jong Il etc etc without having to say that makes Dubbaya OK. This is what everyone keeps doing and I dont get it "yeah well at least he's not hitler" etc etc
thay can both be bad - in fact it's more important that Americans do think of it like that because they have a better chance of voting him out than N.Koreans do their guy - saying "well at least he's not as bad as...." is a kind of cop out.

America has SO much wrong with it. That's one of the reasons I choose not to live there any more.
But it also has so much RIGHT with it.
If only we/they could eliminate the wrong bits...

For human rights, freedom of speech, not to mention freedom of religion, that would most likely be the ottoman empire. That was pretty much 'pay your taxes, don't kill anyone, get left alone'. AFAIK.

With unemployment levels on the wrong side of 50% in places with large concentrations of muslims, and the riots last year in the same places... I wouldn't be so hasty, forge. It's more or less the same all over Europe: we've kept our welfare systems open and our labour markets closed (to quote the Economist newspaper), the opposite of the Americans. Most of the immigrants from non-European countries here in Denmark are self-employed, meaning they sell kebabs and run cornershops. Each and everyone fucking time someone does the test of sending the same application for the same job and marking one as from Mohammed and the other as from Michael, it's clear. Mohammed doesn't get the job. With all due respect for the French (love the place, love the people, speak the language, don't get me wrong), if these things are bad in Scandinavia and Germany, they're 99% likely to be worse in France.

all you have to do is compare the penal system in these countries and you find that statement is inherently incorrect and out of proportion.
"A jail represents a microcosm of your community"
Or more to the point - "I dwell on all the black males doing time/got me wondering who invented motherfucking crime"

ok I sit corrected
I'm really disagreeing with the "you dont like this, well they're worse" argument - there is good and bad everywhere.
and criticising one bad American administration seems to get alot of "yeah, well at least he's not {insert random 3rd world dictator}" which I dont think is really helpful.
I only bother saying it because I dont really think alot of the people saying these things actually do respect Bush - they just somehow see it as a personal attack on them.
I dont really understand why so many people equate Bush criticism with "america hating" - I usually really like the Americans I meet, and they're not GWB or Donald Rumsfeld.
