everyone needs to make $$$ including the Abes... i finally upgraded to live 5 in may, so it's a bitter pill, but we should all swallow it and continue to support a fantastic product.

Well the company since the very early days have a had a months Grace period Always. So Because i have been writing too much music in the last year i never bothered to upgrade. Thought id wait till live 6 came out. And i waited until 20th of june 119 euros. Now i will have to fork out another 119 euros. Nearly 240 euros and you cant see the point come on

Well yes if you upgraded in may i agree. Not 1 week ago or 3 week s ago.

i REALLY don't have 150 MORE dollars to pay. the 279 was a stretch. if i upgrade now, i will have effectively paid for the program. not cool.

i KNOW i could, in theory, have waited. i am not so much bothered by that, i am bothered that i the upgrade path SCREWS me.

Well, there has to be a cutoff date or else you'd get people like me knocking, as I've only had my copy for 4 months now.

Don't worry about it, once you get comfortable with the program and realize how much it will aid and assist your music, you'll find it worth it.

And besides, L6 isn't coming out tomorrow! We're still 12 weeks away -- you're telling me that you can't set aside $13 a week until it launches???

I feel a bit the same myself...I bought an upgrade as well recently, because Ableton advertised a sale price to upgrade from the Lite version I had; I'd heard good things about it from a few friends, so I jumped. To read now that if I'd waited one more month & spent $50 more that I could have had v6, and that in order to do it now I have to spend almost the full cost of the program in total, is disappointing.

I've been through this before with other software, and certainly they have no obligation to do otherwise; and v5 is a great program itself. But one of the most compelling arguments I've heard about paying for continued upgrades was that 'you got to use the software for X amount of time' - well, I've not really gotten to use it all that much. I'm still learning my way around it. (Yeah, it's great workflow - but it's not so simple that you can just pick it up & run with it.)

It would be nice if there was some consideration for a purchase this recent. Mackie offered a time-limited discount when they upgraded Tracktion - maybe Ableton could offer something similar?

That said, I'm happy to have v5, and I won't begrudge Ableton their decision. If an offer is made, however, I'd be inclined to upgrade - which, with the current arrangement, I can't see myself doing anytime soon.

its unlucky granted but, at the end of the day grace means

a goodwill gesture by the company, as i said i dont know of any other software company that does a grace period, think of all the poor souls who bought new macs a month or 2 before the intels came out!! i suppose all you can do is appeal to the abletons better nature i suppose and see how it goes, im not meaning to be rude, ive been stung on other stuff where you pay full price then shortly a new version is out, its life unfortunatly.

hey, live6 is not released yet. we should wait until they really release it. maybe there will be some options? i'm in hope

Life aint fair... No cutoff, Some cutoff, no matter what you do someone is going to end up just outside the line

I bought Live5 a month ago and am happy to have a cool update so soon afterwards. I would certainly not rather have Live6 6 months later just so I don't lament just missing the cutoff by a couple weeks

I purchased a full boxed copy of Live 4 a good few months before Live 5 came out. When I looked at how much it would cost me to upgrade, it came to $49. Whether they'll do the same this time or not, I haven't the faintest idea, but I'll be surprised if they ask for more than $99 for recent buyers. (download version)

Rather than getting so uptight about it, the best thing to do would be to send the Abes a POLITE e-mail, giving your purchase date (try to be exact), the type of bundle you bought (boxed/download etc), and ask how much an upgrade to Live 6 will cost. I know this sounds obvious, but some people need to be bashed over the head before they realise these things.

did that, i am waiting.

but i am doing this because i don't expect them to actualy give me a break. i am sure they thought it over before.

i just was...sad for a sec, as the title says.

i would pay 75 or 100 dollars for a boxed upograde...i would hurt a little for money, but i would chalk it up to bad timing. but 150 KILLS me.

i could always wait... but the multiple button assignment thing is something i want for badly. i record loops live and...well...that would help.
