Well said, i agree totally. And these new features are amazing – keep up the good work, Ableton!dhanjit wrote:I'm much happier that Ableton are focusing Live on what it's good at, and not adding in half-arsed features that other software does so much better.
I think Ableton should play Live to its strengths, and that's what they're doing with Live 3.
00:05 where`s the beta?

The ReWire host and slave functionality means you can combine Live with so many other programs and get much better VSTi hosting and midi sequencing.

I agree too.. 100%

I agree too!
Thanks Ableton.
B_U_T, since the performance of the ap is so terrible in OS X I can't really use it in ReWire slave mode with my Logic 6.2 (neccessary for all my virtual instrument & midi _performance_ & composition needs)...
I ONLY have this problem with LIVE.
(And yes, it's a bit of Apples CoreAudio fault too, though Logic 6.2 sure performs fine now.. Should get even better with Panther.) The reason I come to the site everyday is to see if they FIXED the OS X performance issues...
Altivec, duh, _ALL _my other pro media aps use it, why can't Ableton?
Well, who knows, maybe 3.0 uses altivec?
Still lovin & hoping for progeress with LIVE.

PS Oh & BTW, I believe all this region envelop stuff exisits in Phatmatic Pro too...
Thanks Ableton.

thats cool, but besides reason, NOTHING that rewires is anywhere near stable enough to perform regularly with and not have crash central. People that gig out know what I'm talking about--crashes are simply unacceptable in front of lots of people. Therefore your argument (with the exception of REason, which doesn't host vstis, and who's midi bites big time) is bunk--all of that rewire slaving won't get you very far on stage, which is the main reason I bought Live--to use live. Is it too much to ask for features within Live that I can use live--no I don't think so. The rewire thing is cool, but until all the apps work together without crashes (which is only the Ableton + Reason combo currently), it means jack shit for people who preform often in front of lots of people and can't get a reputation for performing computer crashes and cursing, instead of making music. ANd until REason or Ableton have vsti hosting and good midi and step sequencing, expect lots more people asking for just these features--theres clearly a lot of people out there that want them, and legitimate reasons why. I really do appreciate and look forward to the new features, and it looks great, but people that are out and out against vstis, midi, and step sequencing within Live need to chill. Change is not bad, don't be afraid of the future, it won't hurt you. If you don't want these features when they someday get incorporated into Live, don't buy that version, stick with the one you like for the rest of your life, then you won't have to worry about things being different and all the changes going on around you. Seriously though, I've yet to read a legitimate reason why some people are so opposed to these things, other than they don't like them or need them, and that don't want live to get to complicated--thats bs.jeromepacman wrote:dhanjit wrote:I bought Ableton Live 2 because it was an audio sequencer with ReWire. So you don't think ableton can do these things--thats a pretty low opinion of a great software company. I'm 100% certain that if and when ableton implements these things they will be much better than 99% of the other programs out there--that's why we all love Live so much--their appproach is more intuitve and fluid than other softwares. They've come this far, to sit there and say they can't do this, don't try that, is really a insult to their capabilities--time will tell.....jeromepacman wrote:[I'm much happier that Ableton are focusing Live on what it's good at, and not adding in half-arsed features that other software does so much better.

I'm hoping and thinking so too, and am perfectly happy to wait for it to be done right, Ableton Style. I just think the naysayers need to pipe down, and give ableton some credit--for instance, Fruity Loops cost about $100, has a great step sequencer, great midi recording and editing, vst and directx support, and has NEVER chashed on me on its own accord. If the people at Fruity Loops can offer a product that is that stable and has all of those features and more for $100, I have faith that innovators like ableton can pull off the same features with even better style and intuitiveness, and still keep it stable. I think they are probably working on it, or will work on it in the future. All good things in time. If people don't like vstis and midi and step sequencers, thats cool for them--I don't tell them what to do. It would be great if they did the same and didn't try to squash my hopes and dreams just because they don't want these features.
