some questions about the CPU spikes,

1) Do you get these spikes also when you have just one clip running in Live without any effect (no ableton, no vst).

2) Do you get the spikes just with a special ableton effect or a special VST plug

3) What type of tempo change to do you make? A slowy but continous one or a really fast one more like a tempo jump?

regards,
Alex
1) yes
2) no, it not plug in related, not a denormal issue as such
3)gradual or fast is the same..i must be honest though, logic 5.51 is the most affected.

put it this way, i load logic, ,load live, open my cpu meter in logic, even without playback, as soon as i touch logic's tempo meter, the cpu goes berzerk..on a totally empty project even!!!

acid had fluctuations, but not as severe as the logic ones

Hi pazzap,

sounds strange but I will try if I can reproduce it.
If you have the time and interest you could try out the new uploaded Live 3 beta (Live 3.0b1). I would suggest the behaviour is the same there but you never know :)

Alex

I 've used Live 2.0.3 during the summer during shows we did with our band, mainly as a set arrangement (sort of a computerised eight track).
The arrangement lasts for about an hour (1700 bars). It comprises a lot of seperate clips (most of them 8 or 16 bars long) of the submixes of our album, since it was my initial plan to change scenes on the fly. The live session is therefor rather big (1.1MB).

The 2.1.1 and 2.1.2 version won't open the same 2.0.3 session anymore. because of "not enough memory". Before, I had allocated 197 MB to the 2.0.3 version. Even if I give like 220 MB or even higher to the newer version it still won't open. There's 512 MB in my Tibook and I was careful to leave the system still enough memory to expand into. Nothing helps :( .. Do the 2.1.1 and 2.1.2 versions need that more memory? Can't believe that... Is it a bird, is it a plane, is it a bug......?

Any thoughts about this, Ableton crew?

kind regards
just bumping this issue. I have to prepare a 45 minute set for a show in december and this would have a definite impact on my preparations. What's the word on this one Ableotn?

Thanks!

I was hoping that the bug involving Live not being able to correctly trigger clips when ReWired to Digital Performer would be fixed when I downloaded Live 2.1.2. No such luck. The bug was present when I first purchased and intalled Live 2.0 and has remained through all subsequent updates. Oh well, there is always hope for Live 3.0.

Hi Philip,

at least you should check this with the current Live 3 beta ( www.ableton.com/beta ).

If the behaviour in the beta is not like you expect, send a bug report about with a detailed description about

- what you did and
- what ahppens
- what you expect

to [email protected]
Please also include data like operating system and DP version.

thanks and regards,
Alex

Alex,

Thanks for the quick reply. I've posted extensively about this bug in the past. It was present when I first purchased Live 2.0 and has remained through all subsequent updates. In fact, when I first reported the bug in detail Bernd was able to reproduce the bug and verify that it did exist and was not user error:

"Hi Philip,

now we were able to make your test, and in fact we *can* reproduce it.

Thanks for your help. We will try to fix this soon.

Regards, Bernd."

I also received a reply from you after one of my posts stating that this bug was present for all master ReWire applications, not just Digital Performer:

"Like we said before this something we know. It's not directly related to DP. It happens with all other ReWire master applications too.
We're working to fix it still within the final Live 2.1. "

That post from you surprised me. As I stated in my reply to you at the time, if this bug is present when Live is used with all ReWire master applications I would think that fixing the bug would be a high priority. The fact that it has not been fixed makes we wonder if it can be fixed, since you seem to take great care in tracking and fixing bugs.

I guess I could download the beta version of Live 3.0, but since I have reported extensively about the bug in the past and since in your current post you seem unaware of the bug, I'm fairly certain that it has not been fixed. In other words, you would know if it has been fixed or not.

I hope this post doesn't come across as angry or sarcastic. I don't mean it to sound that way. Ableton's support is far better than most software company's support. And as I stated earlier, you take great care in fixing bugs. It seems that this bug has either slipped through the cracks or cannot be fixed.

Hi Philip,

I have to apologize for not fixing this bug. You were right: somehow this bug slipped through the cracks. And yes, we can reproduce it but unfortunately it is not that easy to fix because of the internal design of the ReWire interface. Anyway, we will try to fix this now in version 3.

Because in this thread there are so many other things discussed, I created a new thread in the public beta forum:

http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4765

Please be so kind and subscribe to this thread. There I will inform you and the others on the state on this bug.

Kind regards and again sorry for the inconvenience,

Bernd.
