should I ditch my NS10s for Behringer truths?

yeah this is where I was coming from with this post really - I agree I would like to keep the NS10s as reference and use some others - probably genelec, although a mate got some active tannoys and it opened up a whole new universe in his mixing

as it goes I probably wont have the cash to spare after all, so I have to stick with them for now

which leads me on to another question - is a cheap sub worth getting?

i say no, rather hold out, save and treat yourself with a nice active set of nearfields, such as the genies 8030a or 8040a, dynos bm5a or bm6 are also worth a listen, i do however prefer the genies.
