Thanks for all the info guys. I've downloaded the live 5 demo and will see how it goes. A few more questions though...
Is MIDI editing on the Ableton roadmap for improvement or are they mainly focussing on Audio manipulation?
Also, is the UI really getting slow after 20 tracks? I typically use 40-50 or more, so 20 is going to be a pain. That's 40-50 midi tracks (not audio) although 4-8 tracks of audio which I then mix into a stereo out or surround.
Cheers
Tim
Live is a serious DAW?
Ok, i'm playing with the demo. So far so good. More questions though about Live 6:
Will it offer a multiple lanes view for automation? E.g. 1 midi track with pan, volume + something else automation, can I see all three at the same time, rather than selecting between them?
Is there more MIDI automation in 6? e.g. automating expression?
Are there going to be any midi quantise functions?
And finally when can I play about with a Beta of v6?
Thanks
Tim

If you are using a lot of midi hardware with Live I don't think you are going to be happy with it coming from a midi powerhouse. Little things that annoy me like no volume fader for midi hardware and patches are changeable on the clip level but not the track level to name a few.
I only have a couple of hardware synths so I work with it.
