The demo is the key.
Keep opening it up and playing with it. Use your other synths, and once in a while go back to operator, scroll through presets, and fiddle, trying to make something new.
Don't buy it before you:
a)See if and how the sonic character is quite different from your other synths.
b)decide that this sound you can get in operator is not doable in the other synths (or not as easily) and you really feel it is a sound that you must have in your arsenal.
Until then, play with the demo. Sampler and racks will do many similar sounds to operator, but by a different workflow. Workflow is really what matters when you already have good sounding synths and want to add another.
