I recently went out and got a copy of xp pro for the new machine I'm building. I refuse to upgrade to vista unless I'm utterly forced....

I really wouldn't worry about it, though, I'm sure there will be "fixes", albeit non-legitimate (or legal) for all of those limitations floating around eventually....especially the MPEG-4 thingy....think about it.

"dick-muncher", hmm that's a new one. Takes a lot of balls to create phoney profile to talk shit, big guy. and I'll use their services and bandwidth as long as it's free......if you want to call that supporting "multinationals" or whatever.....

you are silly

I have been using vista for months and LOVE it.
It smokes xp and osx. super solid and all my software works great.
I get 16% on the live 5 perfomance test with live 6.01 on my 1.66ghz core duo toshiba tablet. That is better than 2.16ghz macbook pros on osx... wha wha what? yes its true.

you dont have to worry about the activation as long as you havent pirated it... so whats the big deal?
vista is a huge step forward with a much faster kernel than xp or osx...

and, guess what... the glass is nice to look at.. yup, i like it better than osx... its really slick my friends..

sorry to say but osx was much slower and crashed more! not to mention the myriad of hardware problems i had with my macbook pro... sold it!

peace yall.. there are two sides to every story...
ryan.
Dude - look at the last page of the testing thread, there's a macbook pro listed right there hitting 15-16% (wha wha what??).
Maybe you had problems...I find it funny reading all these crash bitches, I have experienced few big crashes on either XP or OSX...of course, I maintain my computers regularly.

That said - I don't plan to get into Vista any time soon either.

Familar wedding bells ???
Agreed, and I remember I was one of those "reluctant upgraders".... I stuck with win2k right up until SP2.

However, I think that there is a good reason for doing this, and it's not the usual upgrading fears. The fact of the matter is that Microsoft typically takes longer than apple between major product releases. And, each of these releases generally requires a significant jump in memory, hard disk space, and CPU requirements. I'll probably end up upgrading to vista at some point (mostly for support issues related to my company), but I know that until hardware is able to keep up with the new OS's that redmond is putting out, things are going to be a little uncomfortable...

Any setup that reserves the right to turn off features (like mp3 support?) that I already paid for can go pound salt. Period.

I don't care if it's twice as fast as the other options, that's a deal killer.

The upgrade price to Vista is insanely priced.. maybe wait for 12 months . anyone considering going out and upgrading on release date is nuts.. XP runs fine for most people . I use OSX and have XP running under parallels .. not that I use it hardly but for years PC sales and repairs have been my bread and butter.
Seems like MS has got rather greedy.. they have to get that 6 billion on development back I suppose but heck the restrictions on things like you have to buy the 299 or 399 USD copy of Vista to run it on a VM like Parallels or Vmare again is just plain stupid and greedy..
How much money do MS need? They could start giving away Vista and just sell office and be mega rich
Greed greed greed.
