when you export from garage band, do you render to itunes then drag into live from there?
the whole thing is a bit messy for my liking... plus my poor little g4 dosnt run so good with all those applications open at once..
i think a sampler might be the solution..
Just rememberd, i have a copy of sampletank that i got with my mbox, (probly not the full version). Will this do the same thing?
yup, I do the export to iTunes b/c I can then spit it out from there as an aiff.
However, you can export your riffs, loops, etc., to a folder or to your desktop and skip the itunes step, but it'll be in the .m4a format--which you can then just drag into Live or use the file browser.

this means you were able to actually use all GB instruments (Pianos, guitar, basses) by importing it in Sampler? I had a good library of SF2 and they did not play well, I even bought a library from Sonic Implants but had no success. Do they sound as they do in GB or you have to spend time in sampler to make it work correctly? This could push me to buy sampler (discount lost anyway...) because I have sampletank I love but it won't make it for mac until 2007.... I want a Mac, I want plug my USB keyboard to it...and play.
Hi Mate
All the GB instruments I have used thus far have converted well. I have trialled maybe 10 or so. To me they sound as good as in GB, but you can do much more with them. As many of the instruments use multisamples they seem to translate well, you either have to get Sampler to search for them or you can manually direct sampler to choose all the different aif or wav files associated with the particular EXS instrument that you want.
Have you got L6 yet? If so activate the demo of Sampler & try them out.
Hope that helps?
Cheers

Hi resonatorman your answer is useful.
I already got L6, what I lack is the Mac.
I was negatively shocked during sampler demo testing because SF2 conversions (even those I got from Sonic Implants) did not translate well.
If you search for my threads you'll find that the Abes have confirmed problems with SF2 drumkits (I have lots of Drum Midi Loops) and Sampler.
So when I upgraded to L6 I added Operator, not Sampler. However I'd be happy to have it at full price when I'll move to Mac, later this year. SampleTank UB version is late, not until 2007, I got almost all my material done with that, so I'd have to convert it. I'm no Mac expert but I have understood that ESX file (i.e. Acoustic Guitar) point to a reference of sample that made the instrument, so Sampler is able to import it and use it out of the box after import, without any further work. Correct?

well, I downloaded Jack but didn't get a chance to try it.
I did try Soundflower and it works great!
Easy install etc.
I know there were problems in the past but version 1.2, macosX.3.9, Garageband 2 ableton live 5.2, works like a champ!

Yeah sorry about that

:, I guess the link would help:
http://www.cycling74.com/products/soundflower
Note: after installing Soundflower, and rebooting, launch Ableton first, then launch Garageband. Reason: If you launch GB first then Ableton, Ableton opens up in Rewire Slave mode and you can't choose audio input or output from the preferences menu.
Make sense?
Rock and roll!

Good!.
I already tested that MIDI can be routed from Live 6 to GB just using the internal OS midi router (IAC) this is the missing piece. You can then play MIDI in live, route MIDI to GB and then get Audio back to Live.....amazing!
I'll test it and report.

How do you use the GB instruments in Sampler? Where are they located?

Pasha, they should be loacted around here:
HD>Library>App Support>GrageBand>Instrument Library>Sampler Instruments.
They're all exs files. When you load them into Sampler for the first time you sometimes also need to locate audio files for them, Sampler will tell you what file it needs, they're in the same path except in >Sampler Files as opposed to sampler instruments, they're all in individual folder instruments there. This can take a little while locating & selecting them depending on how many audio files the EXS uses & how many EXS you are loading up for the first tme.
Hope this helps.....

Helped a lot.
I still do not own Sampler yet, I'm experimenting in demo mode. Most conversions went fine, and sound is good. Piano wants me to locate the samples so I guess It will take time for the number of samples here can be huge. The Piano I have converted so far (the one the converts in one shot, without looking for samples) has a strange behaviour : when played in GB is louder than in Live.. is Sampler conversion complete or lacks something? I had otherwise obtained good conversions with Bass, upright, sax, guitar...
