damn this is kinda nerve wrecking. i am also about to get a macbook pro and i am not shure if the second revision will happen before christmas. but i can't wait much longer then this, so i guess it will be a sort of gamble to either choose right now one or to wait.

damn again.

You guys should wait for the 8 cores that are coming out next year and will spank your core 2 duos into submission

I recently (like last week) bit the bullet and bought a macbook black (i know its a gross overprice for black, but what can i say? i like black) and even with juts 1ghz ram it screams. I figure if i wait for core2duo am i ever going to stop waiting, I could have played this game for years.
Im very happy.

totally right. that is what i am thinking as well, it's an endless game / race... everytime i purchased a new mac an upgrade was around within a couple of month...

i guess i just got to confused with all that 'wait for the XXX Power'

well, i belive i will shop then.

I thought that the core duo 2 processors weren't actually going to be that much faster than coreduo. like 2.33 Ghz instead of 2.0 or something? I thought the big deal was that it was supposed to use less power, but then a recent test showed it not using much less power at all (sorry no link).

So I can't see what the big deal is with the new processors. My macbook works fine, and I would sell it in a second to buy a quadcore macbook, but for a little speedbump, what's the use in waiting.

coreduo2 are already in some pc laptops are they not? Are they really that much faster? I doubt it. I don't know for sure though.

valid point here... just a little increase in speed might not being worth the time lost working with a fit maschine.

actually what about those random shutdown problems, has that settled or is it still a 'major' issue... any users or recent purchasers of macbooks / pro?

thanks!

Core 2 duo is 64 bit though, core duo is not. That's the reason people are waiting for the core 2 duos.

Look at this post its almost as funny as the smoke crack one.
Just buy the fucka instead of pretending you want advice and then ignoring it.
What a waste of time. I was lying, the macbooks right now are great, amazing and the new chips are shit so don't bother. The old chips are always gonna be better.
64 Bit pffff.

So what exactly will 64 bit do for us music-wise? I'm not arguing, I'm asking. Where will I see a performance increase? The only things I want more of is processor speed (for the cpu killer plugs), and hard drive space (for the samples/recordings - without having to have everything external).

Small increase in clock speed, yeah. But you should bare in mind that you simply cant judge a processors 'speed' by its clock speed. Whats gotten me so interested in the core 2 duo chips is the 4MB L2 cache. Remeber how impressed everybody was with the centrino based laptops running live 5 about a year or so ago? Well that was largely thanks to their large L2 cache.
Core2duo is set to double the L2 cahce available to Macbook/MBP users
Personaly Id be interested to see the performance difference between a imac and the current MBP....
Also, people are suggesting that you wait is not so you play the eternal game of waiting for the latest/greatest technology. It is because it really could be very soon, and that would make any purchase a little foolhardy right now.
Not that Im not tempted though...

As i said previously i have recently purchased a macbook and it doesnt show any sign of random shutdown disease and hopefully it wont. The repairs on the ones that are seem to moving pretty quickly now too. If I do start to find anything at all you folks will be among the first to know
