I think the HD is 5400 as SDMcB pointed out which may or may not pose to much of a problem
Alot of my Ableton sessions end up with over 20 audio tracks and I plan on djing with TORQ so I might have to look into upgrading the package to 7200 - yes?

yep. i have a 15" mbp, with a 7200 rpm drive. i saw the new ones were released on the apple store and went to check them out, it's sweet that you can have 3 gigs of ram and firewire 800, but definitely not sweet that you have to get the 17" model to get the option to have a 7200 rpm drivedazzer wrote:Just noticed one thing - the 15" hasn't got a 7200 hard drive option. That particular model is probably not going to be released until the new year. My question is the opposite. On Macrumors site, ongoing debate is saying forget any INTERNAL drive for audio, you've GOT to go with EXTERNAL. Some people there give this as a reason for not moaning about the MBP hard drive speed regression.
Are they right? Should I be using an external drive anyway? Am I stupid for worrying about the internal drive? I'm sure external is better but I don't want to HAVE to use one.

My external 7200rpm 320GB lacie drive is quicker than the internal 5400rpm drive but it's in no way essential for audio. What are trying to do? OTOH I have the same laptop with a 4200rpm drive and that is a little sluggish.

I would never buy a mac. I can get an equally if not more powerful Windows machine for less than half the price. Plus who needs a shitty little video camera on their laptops? A 5400 rpm hard drive is rubbish too. Only 2 USB ports is a joke. Don't waste your money. Buy a Windows machine. More grunt and value for money.
