if you are happy with your PC thats fine
If you want a newer faster system then consider the Mac for several reasons
You can run both OS's or even linux
OS XZ is way way easier to setup and man tain for audop work.. it just works is actually true. I am a PC technition and use a Mac for audio work.
If you are sick of the hassles with security issues or prefer a much more stable fluid system the OS X is fantastic.
The best thing is find a friend with a Mac and have a play for a while and see if you like it.
I recomemend any audio computer buyer to buy a Mac now for those and other reasons. If they just want a checp system for email or writing a letter and nothing else then buy a cheap cheap Dell. PC mind u i still cringe cause most of the time i know i will get lots of calls cause omething is wrong or they get a trojan it something. Macs just make my life alot more plesent and tress free. Till i owned one a year ago I had no idea,, but i still make money running around fixing XP hassl;es up everyday. I I was a Mac fixer id go broke.. PC's make me rich !

Macs and PCs used to be different in terms of hardware.

Macs used PowerPC CPU chips, while PCs used Intel or AMD chips.



Now Macs use Intel, and the result is that there is no hardware difference between a Mac and a PC, other than minor cosmetics of the case.

A Mac is simply a PC that they allow to run OSX.

A PC could run OSX, but Apple doesn't want to allow that because it would kill their hardware sales.... turning Apple into a pure software company like Microsoft.

It's more than the look of the laptop, it's the feel of it and the design. Every time I use a Mac or Mac Pro it just oozes quality, it's actually fun to use. Apple hardware is light years beyond Dell or anything else.

Apple is actually behind Dell, in terms of the actual hardware inside. Example: Dell released Core 2 Duo laptops months before Apple had them.



Frankly, I think the build quality of Apple laptops isn't all that great. I have a friend who got a PowerBook G4 some time ago, and accidentally dropped is on the table.... only a few inches. Since the case on the Apple is metal, it split open and bent. The bend prevented the case from being pushed back together. So ever since, this laptop has just been cracked open and Apple wouldn't fix it.

I have dropped my old Dell laptop which was plastic on floor.... so about a 3 feet drop, not just a few inches. The plastic got scuffed up, and there was even a small crack in the corner.... but the base did not open up and bend like my friend's Apple did.


You like Apple.... that's cool. But to be 100% honest, there is no serious difference between Apple computers and PCs now, except for the cases.... and the fact that PCs will get new technology inside a few months before Apple does.

I agree, but the thing I see with the Intel partnership is that Apple will get first shot at a new line of chips if it come out at the time they are to upgrade. The Macbook Pro when it first came out had a faster RAM and chip than Dell for instance.
Apple tend to have a six month cycle on hardware so they won't always have a latest chip unless it fits into that six months cycle mobo.

I'll definitely be switching back soon then.

I don't have to worry about mc/pac wars.

I don't think you can really qualify that unless you take two laptops, and drop them from varying heights etc. I've dropped every mac laptop I've owned at some point, on concrete even, and never had a single issue, except maybe a scratch. The guy I sold the last powerbook to broke the hinge within a few months, he likes to drink shall we say?

I have a dell with an apple sticker on it...

Get a mac, a copy of xp and dual boot...

For Audio the only reason why i am looking at macs is because i have Logic 7 and I want to get farmiliar with FinalCut Pro.


So i guess the Mac only software is a good reason to buy Mac.
