Because they have reclaimed the word as their own, and inverted its meaning...much like the words bad, sick, twisted. That doesn't necessarily make it non-hateful to call someone a nigger, but it does allow for non-hateful use of the word, especially by people for whom it previously would have been a hateful word. Hiphop is the transformation of all subjects and objects.12micsn1 wrote: The question remains why do black people keep the n-word alive?
First Mel Gibson and now this!
I keep watching this. I can't help it. I think because it's so unbeleivable. Any fool knows you can't do that. It's amazing that anyone would want to but i guess it's naive to think there aren't still people like him out there.
I've never seen someone self-destruct so badly in front of so many people. It really is amazing. I think he lives in Los Angeles I'm also pretty sure that's where this took place. He better move. Lord knows he won't be getting any work in hollywood anyways. This has got to be the biggest jack ass move of all time!!!

The only difference now is that blacks are playing the roles. If you are not black and not revolutionary minded you might find it hard to understand.
TV is a rotten piece of shit. So many people have no clue on its subconscious impact on them, how they view reality in affect...
and the subtle programming- messages they slip in there to put a thought in your head.
i prefer the N word ninja. My ninjas and I throw that around a bit.

Sure it's huge jackass move. Should he be held out of work? Yes. Nobody is going to put him on TV and standup is obviously out of the question. Should he have to flee the country or face assaination? No. There are plenty of people out there like this and he obviously is a racist regardless of his apology.Voodu wrote:I keep watching this. I can't help it. I think because it's so unbeleivable. Just by the sheer force of the way he verbally abused the heckler shows something about black people bother him. What a shame. I figured he wuld have came out and played the I have a substance abuse problem card. There still is plenty of time for that though... (A la Mel Gibson)
Wow...I guess I'm really suprised that African Americans would consider BET to be that. I actually do like to watch BET on Sunday mornings when they have the gospel music on.JahGuide wrote:"Minstrel show, or minstrelsy, was an American entertainment consisting of comic skits, variety acts, dancing, and music, performed by white people in blackface or, especially after the American Civil War, African Americans in blackface. I don't appreciate the rap videos that they show (even though I like some rap music)...I think it does a HUGE dis-service to the black population in general and propogates the very culture that a lot of the black population is trying to eradicate (gangster, disrepectful to women, etc)...hip hop culture is cool but there's WAY too much shootem up gangsta/pimp message in most rap videos

If you like rap music/hip hop culture but don't like the ho's/shoot-'em-ups than don't watch BET. I like rock music too but I didn't listen to wanker rock when it was new or during it's mesh capped revival a couple years back either...jb61264 wrote:Wow...I guess I'm really suprised that African Americans would consider BET to be that. Find an alternative. It's actually a lot easier to now then 15 years ago...
probably because racism is more socially damaging in the public eye. Someone who has a substance abuse problem is more socially acceptable than someone who is peeling relatively new scars back open.
Just need a few more generations to die off hopefully..

Pretty simple really, for the same reasons poor English people will great each other by calling each other names. The same reason construction workers lay into each other hard core. It's almost as if the poor in general keep themselves poor.12micsn1 wrote:it shows alot of ignorance to use this n-word even if you are black knowing all the negative history behind it.
The question remains why do black people keep the n-word alive?
It's supposed to breed kinship, "You're my kind we both are nothing", but it's pretty negatively motivated.
I've been guilty of it, (dogging coworkers and friends in camaraderie), but I don't see it as a positive thing in the long run.
That was pretty fucked up BTW, he had to be drunk, or on drugs, no way he was sober.
I'm not saying he should be killed or anything but as you said it was also very clear he meant all that with extreme hatred. Does he really think just because he was on Seinfield and played in a few horrible b-movies he can get by with this. How distorted of a view does he have of himself?
No matter what happens I don't think he can recover from this. Just the way he did it you can tell he was really lettin the cat out of the bag.
It's amazing to me you can have as much money as he does and yet not enough common sense to know human beings are far to complex to be judged on color alone. I know I'm sounding like a tree hugging hippie but jesus christ!! I'm baffled.

Nah, I don't think he feels like he can get away with this at all. Just be ready for the "I've had a substace abuse problem and I'm sorry" story to come out...Voodu wrote:I'm not saying he should be killed or anything but as you said it was also very clear he meant all that with extreme hatred.
