It IS hard drive related. With that many audio slices, you better have at least a 7200 rpm drive (preferably external) but I bet you don't in this case, right?

Just seems the most likely scenario...

Consolidate more.

Surely you should be able to playback that without workarounds (Consolidate etc). Its just audio but Live seems to choke on too much.
I've always used Live with Audio on seperate HDs (7200), and am not impressed. Cubase and all the other DAWs spit audio for fun and so Live should too. Somethings wrong if it can't do that (And you're on a fast as machine Tarekith).
I think maybe B0unce is right.

my arrangement looks like yours and even more jagged, and over 45min, imagine how it feels to work with... horror

Some clarifications:

- I'm running OSX 10.4.8, latest updates installed, latest drivers for my Ultralite, latest beta of Live 6.

- These are all audio files, and ALL have been set to load into RAM. Total project file size of all audio files is less than 50MB. The audio is fine when this plays back, no pops or clicks, everything is dead locked on time. However it's the INTERFACE that slows down. Moving, pasting, saving, etc all take significantly longer the more audio files I have in the project.

- Consolidating is not an option, nor should it be necessary. Every other DAW I've worked with handles this stuff just fine (SX, Sonar, PT, etc). This is the way I write my music, and has been for years. Consolidating makes it ten times harder to do drum fills and edits for me.

- The MBP is set to run with no throttling, energy savings enabled, etc. Playing back similar arrangements in SX or even in Wavelab's Montage on this same machine works fine (via Parallels no less).

- Only about 5% of these clips (or less) have warping even turned on. The rest are playing backa s normal audio files.

- My CPU meter in Live never goes above 5%, I never get a disc overload, and I'm not using any effects either.

Again, not looking for workarounds here, I know them already. I'm just saying something is not right with the way Live responds when you start using lots of audio files. I see the same thing happening when using lots of midi notes too, FWIW.

Glad to see there are some others running into this still too.

Yes, the waveform graphics are a bitch. I am working today on a live recording - (about 65 mins) with four tracks that are open in the arrange view. When I want to zoom right in, for example to find a cue point in a waveform, Live 5.2
crashes.

I also would like to be able to disable waveform drawing when the tracks are folded.

I have a fairly decent graphics card BTW.

I've used some pretty hardcore live arrangements, but not run into that yet? I do have dashboard disabled, maybe that helps?

Wrong, wrong... You are working Live like a traditional sequencer. The right way is not to copy/paste on Arrangement View to create many identical clips. Remember, Live is a LOOP SEQUENCER..!! So... set the loop, and repeat it..!!!

Gasp, the horror! To think this whole time I've been using Live the wrong way!

Anyone have any loops I can use? Apparently the 4 GB of drum hits I've been collecting over the last 10 years is not compatible with Live.

at this rate you will never create negative seven techno tracks...

Dude, I'm so far beyond that. This is like -22 industrial dutch gabbercore, seriously. Even 2 seconds of listening to this will make your ears bleed (I mean in the good way), and I haven't even added the final 5 limiters on the master channel yet.

well i can tell by the screen shot that you'll be having trouble with your mixdown becuause youve used analagous colors in your clips instead of contrasting ones...

Why dont you use impulse and draw the drums in midi - sorry i just noticed youve arranged out your kicks and snares, hats etc 8O - that must take you hours - unless you copy and past them as loops... what if you make a mistake what happens if you want to make a global adjustmant to say the kicks attack or somthing - how do you handle that?!
