Either humor him, or ignore him. Mental illness can be just as real as a broken arm. Society just won't accept it.

while it is clear that you have some sort of knowledge of psychology, i'm not sure that one can say quite so matter-of-factly that this particular individual has a mental illness.

your post indicates that you assess him as someone who needs attention rather severely. the same might be said of anyone on this board whose posts are predominantly of a non-informational nature, and even then, there is no guaranteeing that anyone on this board needs less attention since all one has to judge by are text postings, which can be subject to editing and intense reflection before Submitting them. and then there is the further complication of other readers interpreting that information, a highly subjective action.

Evil*5 has actually posted valid questions in the past, but it seems that his latest actions on the board are of a humourous nature. he is entertaining (debatable of course), but his motivation(s) for his actions are not clear, and i think that ,because of the nature of text messages on the internet, they are basically unknowable. almost all entertainers like to rally people behind them and offer them something they didn't have before. from the class clown to James Brown, all of them are likely to "need" more attention than others... but so what? it may be true that Evil*5 needs attention, but it may also be true that he just likes it and enjoys exercising creative powers in character acting on the internet. or making an ass of himself. or making an ass out of us. or revealing our intolerances. or his own.

i think it is likely that this particular persona evolved out of his experience on the boards (at least in part), and that he found some sort of outlet for his boredom, or needs, or creative juices, or particular and not-often-understood/appreciated sense of humour, or whatever, but that is no real indication that he is mentally ill.

personally, i think he's rather funny and intelligent, even if a bit evil. i look forward to reading his posts. others might not feel the same, some definately don't, but his forum name is rather obvious so it's easy to avoid reading.

probably a late night cram session, i know I get too brainy on the web sometimes after a day of studying, but i am guilty of deleting my message before i post it, realizing that i wrote a big fat paragraph and that's when i get off the internet computer and walk over to the music computer...

good angle in that break down though!

i certainly hope he is.

i have studied psychology a little bit, but am by no means an expert. i was just playing devil's advocate to hambone1's post and perhaps needlessly coming to Evil*5's defense. i find it all too easy for people to label people as somehow disorderly. it's easy to do, but also dangerous, and it irks me. but ultimately, i was bored and felt like exercising my brain. glad someone got a laugh out of it, though!
