Internet was not as easy and as fast in 1981-1982 as it is now, beleive me, it's name wasn't the same, I guess you don't care and you were certainly not yet in your father's balls, but I can tell that no one was having this kind of stupid "conversation".

Agreed. My dad used to walk in 4/4, and then one day, he heard a waltz and started walking around in 3/4. Given that I was in his balls at the time, the change in rhythm really threw me for a spin. So now I really want to do this in Live all the time.

Apologies if I helped to steer things off course. It is a valid question I suppose, though I would maintain that the OP has really crappy manners for a guy who hasn't had a disagreement in 25 years (not to mention an improbable span of usage on the internet.) Also, I'm older than I'd prefer, so the "dad's balls" business doesn't exactly cut to the bone or anything.

Back on topic - and this is an honest question, not an effort to be snarky - I don't really understand how it's all that relevant excepting the metronome. I mean a clip in one sig follows a clip in the other, and so it goes. I've got live sets that do this very thing? What am I missing?

I don't understand why they don't add the ability to change time signature by typing it into the scene change window, like you can with BPM. That would be awesome. Seems to me there has to be a reason (ie. a coding issue) for them to have not done this by now.

There really ought to be a scene properties window, just like the clip properties window, where you could enter tempo in a proper field, along with fields for other features requests that arise. Ability to change tempos per scenes is GREAT, but I hate having to sacrifice my scene names for it.

but it would be a lot more clear for people who's heads are in music theory world if it had time signature change. i write stuff that changes time in live often. And stuff with multiple time sigs at once. but i can understand why a trained musician would like to see time sig change rather than ignore the sets global time sig. they're used to thinking a certain way.

Very dope idea.

If all you need is for the '1' in the loop to be on the '1' in the tempo, just adjust the bpm.

4/4 @ 120 bpm = 3/4 @ 150 bpm and your loops aren't cut to the '1' they're cut to the 3rd beat.

It's a workaround but you CAN do it.

no, the only work around is to ignore the master time sig. If working in arrange, you don't need to do anything else.


if working on the fly in session, you need to set global quantize to an appropriate duration, like 1/4note for instance.


as mentioned, stuff like 6/8 or 2/2 doesn't work right, if you want 2/2 you just have to program 16ths where you would put 1/8ths, because live isn't going to really set 1/2 notes to one click of the metronome.

Then the only other thing is to ensure your loops are cut to 3 beats for 3/4, 6/8 etc. or 7 beats for 7/8 etc. Honestly, I stay in 4/4 but it'd be good for me for work with 3/4 more just to get used to it.
