Funny you mentioned it...I did Search and Rescue in Yuma, AZ for three years. Although we were there to support the jets, almost all of our actual rescue launches were for civilians. While some were fairly benign highway accidents that just needed fast transport, I've also hauled people off the side of a mountain via winch.

For all the helo's inefficiencies and short comings, there's still nothing that can touch them for the things they can do best.

you can do things and land places that a plane can not dream of. sure they use gas, but if you own one you can afford the gas.
