With only 512 MB, I was getting huge spikes in CPU, long delays for load times of sounds and sets, and pretty frequent drop outs. I couldn't even use Puremagnetik's Wavebase set, b/c if the modules/racks loaded, they crashed Live.
I've gotten none of that since.

MacBook 2 GHz Intel CoreDuo, 2GB RAM, Live 6.10, Reason 4.01, Reaktor 5.14, Novation Remote SL 25, GForce Oddity, TimewARP 2600, Arturia CS-80V 2, UC-33e, M-Audio FastTrack Pro, Roland Jupiter 6 w Europa mod
a word of advice. don't sell the 512mb stick your macbook came with. if anything ever goes wrong with your macbook and you have 2gb of third party ram installed apple is likely to blame your problems on the ram. even if it is not the ram's fault..
so if you ever take your macbook in for repairs or something switch out the ram real quick so apple doesn't give you any flack..

Good advice, tho I bought mine thru Apple (the price differential was, like, $80) — having destroyed my computer in college that way, I wasn't too keen on risking it again. Plus, the gov't discount...

I have a P4 3.2ghz. I've had 1gb of RAM for the past 3 years on this machine. It does the job just fine, but I'm still on XP. If I went to Vista, I'd definitely go to 2gb minimum (but then I'm not going to Vista anytime soon). If you're running XP, I think 1gb is sufficient, although 2gb is better when you run a ton of samples. Also, if you're running a notebook with only one hard drive or a slower hard drive, more ram means you can load up more clips in ram and you can probably get more tracks running in Live.
