ohhhhh I forgot the audio outs could be used to trigger instruments which allow for audio triggering. very nice.

but I am right in thinking that in step mode the 707 won't output midi right?

Each voice is midi assignable out but it is not explained well in the TR707 manual.... I had a hell of a time trying to figure it out...

MIDI triggering


The MIDI triggering of external equipment / instruments is very limited. It can only be used in track play mode, and triggered notes can be no longer than the length of the original 707 instrument’s length. This should not be a problem if you intend for short triggers, but forget about sweeping strings and such.


How to do it:
1. Enter track play mode with the 707 not running.
2. Press and hold down (SHIFT), press and release (MIDI CH) and then, whilst still pressing (s.) (SHIFT), press (INSTRUMENT/GUIDE). Finally, release (SHIFT) and press (START).

Now your external equipment should be triggered by the patterns (notes) instead of the 707. If there’s no sound, repeat step 2 once more. This is to set the 707 to MIDI transmit mode #2. Remember that only whilst in MIDI transmit mode #1 will the 707 play its own sounds.

I really would love to get a sampling drum machine like the UW, but I don't have enough money.
Impulse and a huge library of drum samples for me.

The most fun i had programming beats with an old mpc2000. Since I got rid of that ive used stylus and guru. Stylus was cool but its too easy to use someone elses beats, i dont like to have to try to make beats original, starting from someone elses beat. Guru was a step in the right direction, similar to mpc programming but i just didnt feel the love with it.
So after paying for these two, i found the free drumstack rack that lets you layer drum samples with impulse, and that was it. The integration with live is awesome, and the workflow is great. It feels like the mpc for me in that i feel like im working with one instrument when writing songs in live, instead of unrelated components.

In summary- live kicks ass

i <3 my 606 i wish i could synch it with Live
i have tried to use NI nostalgia but it crashes live so many times its almost unuseable
also layered impulse kits

I can't believe no one has mentioned ezdrummer (now UB). It is the best for acoustic drums. I love using it with the padkontrol with the roll function and humanize on the plug. Really fantastic real sounding rolls. It also has a great library of midi files drag and drop like Stylus RMX.

You know the sound library in stylus has a ton of single hits very well categorized and also a Kit mode!!

anyone use jamstix? i know it's PC only but maybe worth gettting a crappy windows machine just for it (MIDI out to impulse/sampler on the MBP).

Groove Agent is the SHIT. LOVE IT.

But when I use it with LIVE, some of the midi functions wont work, like Fill, 1/2 Time, Snare/Stick...

Ideas?
