Re: Electribes, NRPNs and Impulse. And Hi!
Hi there,
I have an ES-1 and a Macbook with Live soft.
Did anyone manage to turn this machine into a midi controller with Midi Pipe?
Mostly I need to control the plugins with Es-1 knobs but any plus would be greatly welcome.
I can't figure how to convert nrpn into cc with it. Midi ox seems so much simpler
when I read your posts but unfortunately I have to deal with my actual configuration.
I did a lot of reading about this but stil can't manage how to get it done.

Re: Electribes, NRPNs and Impulse. And Hi!
is it possible to do the reverse on mac without all the midi ox thing? IE automate the part 2 volume from live?
say part 2 level
i send cc 98 (NRPN LSB) [16] or is it [12]
then cc 99 (NRPN MSB) [10] or is it [42]
then i send cc 101 (rpn MSB) values?
because it doesnt work
edit: ok i figured i was reversed with MSB and LSB, so i manage to send 1 nrpn per scene, as as soon as another clip say part 3(ghost snare, part 2 being main snare), has automation it changes the NRPN "focus" so it's only 1 parameter per electribe at 1 time, is there a way around it, i can't see one as it will always get the last one called
edit 2
ok, first let me explain a bit about my session and setup
i used to have all sequencing in the tribe, but to play the new album live, i needed linear sequencing so i exported the midi from logic to live
i really want to have each drum part on its own track in live so my column setup is something like this
kick - snare - ghost - clap - perc - closed hat - open hat - rev crash - crash - and so on*
(since i also work that way in logic it was a pretty easy transition
the electribe doesnt give a fuck about velocity, so all my carefulle constructed snare rolls are crap at best when played by the tribe (ok, i know i could just use impulse, but again, i built this setu pto have every sound on it's own physical input (to a certain extend, i separated kick on 3 snare on 4 and hats percs and cymbals on 1-2, and my soundcard 10 outs are already used anyway)
anyway, i digress, but let me continue my story
i managed to find a way to send NRPN from live to the tribe
so i setup on part 2, send cc98-99 and 38 with the set values for level (42-12-1 IIRC) and use cc6 data entry to make a volume curve to replace my destroyed velocity creshendo, it works, then later in the song part 3 does a roll so in part 3 clip i send again CC8-99-38, this time with values to ge part 3 to level (72-12-1) but since it all clip long, when played, at the time where part 2 was creschending(lol) nothing happens, so i figure part 3 messed it up, so i put envelope breakpoints to isolate the 2, and it works
now comes the tricky part, how do i send BOTH at the same time(i need to csrechend (lol again) part 1 2 and 3 at 1 spot in many of the songs
is there a way or i'm i screwed
i thought of automating the HW mixer, would somewhat work for kick(alone, would be fine, but again, i play with those faders and the final value from the soft may be below what was previously hand set and steal all punch from the buildup, also, snares are mixed on out 4 (snare and ghost and clap) so a build up of snares but with a steady level clap would be messed
any thoughts?

Re: Electribes, NRPNs and Impulse. And Hi!
i will have to use midipipe, so i'm into making a full mapping of all knobs, i'm pretty confident it'll work fine except for the mutes/solos, how did you manage them? because IIRC the mute press event sends the state of all mute buttons every time(i.e. mute part 2, the message is like part 1 on part 2 off part 3 on and so on, again IIRC and IIUnderstoodC the MIDI implementation in the manual part 2)
