Thanks guys - this help is really appreciated! I'm at work - but when I get home I've got 2 or 3 ways forward with this...
Zerobae- I like the sound of "GM to Impulse Remapper"! I'll let you know if I manage to find it!!!
Cheers!

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is some kind of sick joke!!! I CANNOT get all of the pads to trigger impulse slots!
(It's helping me get my head around racks, though...)
So the only notes I'm using from the DR-202 are:
C1
D1
F#1
A#1
D#2
C#2
C3
C#3
Ican map the first 6 fine - but when I get to C3 (which is where th impulse starts to accept midi) it triggers slt 1 AND 7!!! I've tried creating a custom rack - the only way I managed to get 6 of the pads working was by using 4 chains, with only a couple of pads active on each one...
What the hell is going on?!?

Yeah Pitch is what I've been using to get my SR16 pads playing Impulse slots. I was thinking it might be useful if there were Pitch patches (ha) set for different drum machines so that other users could just d/l it and sling it in front of an Impulse. I'm gonna do that for SR16 - anybody want to post here with patches for other machines?

ok, but you should get all impulse pads triggered by one (or more) pads on the dr 202. it's kinda weird though, it won't be left to right... some dr202 pads trigger more than one impulse pad... etc

Yeah - that's the problem I had!!! I think it's because the 7th pad along starts off at C3 - causing me all kinds of mayhem!!!
How did you manage to do it with your keyboard? I thought the GM to Impulse maper was gonna do it for the 202...
It's gonna be a rack, combining chains of Scale and Pitch effects - wish me luck!
Thanks for the help so far...

Mwuh-ha-ha-ha!!! I've done it!!! I'm one happy mother-fucker, that's right!!!
I had to create a rack (my first one - I shall call him "DR-202 Pads for Impulse") with 7 chains in. Each chain contains a single Pitch effect, set to alter a single pad on the DR-202 to the note range that impulse uses. (For some reason, one of the chains worked for 2 pads, hence 7 chains).
Ain't racks good!

Be advised that this is a very simple version of GM -> Impulse mapping. The GM to Impulse Remapper MIDI Effect maps B2 to kick drum (pad 1), C3-B3 to snare drum (pad 2), and C4 to E4 is mapped to HH (pad 7). Basically this plugin changes the notes of B2 through E4 and combines all of those notes to 3 pads in Impulse.
The GM to Impulse Remapper MIDI Effect (under the Tools menu on my Live6 version) needs to have the Pitch MIDI Effect in front of it set to +24 st. For some reason the GM plugin alone isn't enough to make this change from GM standard keys to Impulse (C1 vs C3).
I'm confused why Ableton didn't include a full MIDI Effect Rack that included a generically full GM mapping to multiple Impulses pre-loaded with sounds. You could easily change the sounds to suit but at least the GM mapping issue would be a no-brainer.
Has anyone created a MIDI Effect Rack that includes a relatively full GM mapping and multiple instances of Impulse? If so, would you mind sharing it?
