the drummer is excellent and consider he was working with very little dynamic action but in a way that made it pretty good bt that would eventually get boring. this drummer needs shit to bounce off

I thought it was all really great except for that cheesey "hit it, hit it" voice sample. I'd skip that.

So you made a drum sequencer in Max, and made an interface for it on the Lemur? So you add or eraze steps on the fly, and its syncked to Live, which you also trigger clips from?
No, not at all for this set, actually. It's just a straight "midi controller" page controlling ableton Live.

I don't launch scenes at all, only individual clips (synth lines, ambiences, that kind of stuff). And I use only ONE page on my Lemur to navigate the entire set. Lovely and simple.

;) For those single bass drops that don't need to be in key, anyway.

Hehe ;-)

Agree, keeping it simple is the way to go, otherwize I dont think its possible to jam it live. Rather feel more comfertable playing on one piece of "instrument" then 5, that also have different setups on each music piece. Kinda looses the direct emotions, if one have to thing to much about whats where when playing! Atleast for me... :-P

Andreas!

Fantastic performance!!!

Code: Select all

I don't launch scenes at all, only individual clips (synth lines, ambiences, that kind of stuff).
What Launch Mode you have on those individual clips? They trigger only once per MIDI note on? I am curious on how do you have those clips setup...

thanks!
GAbi.

Thanks G,

It's just regular trigger mode, and I only use "track launch" buttons, I haven't assigned to individual slots, even though I could. If you look at the Lemur screen shot I have individual stop buttons per track, too, so with 16 starts +16 stops and some scene up/down navigation I can access the entire set.

This navigation is also the only time I need to look at my screen - but no mousing.

Andreas,

Thanks for the response!
You mentioned that you are not using scenes...
But if you are using a track's Launch Button and if you have more than one clip in a track, which one will be launched? You know what I mean?

thanks!
Gabi.

well I am "using" scenes, as in having several clips underneath each other, but I never *launch* a scene.

Sorry for the confusion there.

Thanks a lot again!

I think I saw the light! I wasn't able to find the "track launch" buttons for the life of me! That's because they come visible only when you are in MIDI map mode (or keyboard). That's excellent! Can those be mapped to toggle STOP and PLAY?

thanhks again!
Gabi.

The "track stop" button should have appeared just underneath the track launch button ;-)

Thanks Andreas!

it makes sense. But this Launch Track will always launch the top clip in the track no?

Anyway, just to make sure I am talking of the same buttons. Here is an image of what I have as Track Launch and Track Stop buttons:

As an example, I mapped the Track Stop button to my computer's keyboard numeric 0 and the Track Launch to numeric 1.

thanks a lot!!!

You're almost there, mate.
Now you just need to assign a controller or some computer keys to Scene up/down - since the track launch works for whichever scene is in focus.

For a showcase it´s a good thing but musically I´d wish that the drummer stayed at one pattern more often, and yeah, make it more uncomfortable for yourself :)

Two questions from me:

Has the drummer a SPD S ? just to control Live?

and

Does he trigger the internal sounds of the TD20 only?

Right on. It's definitely more showcasey than concertey. Esp. since we're both very much jam musicians in "real-life" -we don't mind grooving out for 10-15 minutes live. And don't worry, the maxMSP patches I'm working on now will make things plenty difficult for me. And heaps more fun.
dancing Ray wrote: Two questions from me:

He sort of does two things with it - he has some quick internal sounds in there on one bank, and we just did a quick Live-control thing for this gig, so he switches scenes and mutes stuff with another bank.

So far yes. We found it a bit too fiddly triggering sounds in Live with his TD-20s. Now we're moving to a MaxMSP based system where this will be heaps easier (like, switching out just the kick of the kit using OSC)

I was actually pleasantly surprised with the built-in sounds on the TD20. They can get nice and gritty.
