What IS this problem, that the tracks they bought don't sound good enough?

Yes, many tracks are overcompressed and have some clipping. Many other tracks are too quiet. It's beneficial to "even out" your entire collection because you'll hear better mixing as a result.


The idea of post-processing is not new. Many DJs have done it for years before burning CDs or warping in Ableton Live. Some DJs do it by hand (we've done it that way for 4 years), but it takes a lot of work. We used Sound Forge, a couple of high-end plug-ins like Waves or iZotope Ozone, and adjusted each parameter manually. After doing this for years, we wrote math equations to automate the entire process because we always used the same steps over and over.


Just as a side note: Shane 54, DJ Prince and Andy Rigby-Jones from Allen & Heath provided inspiration for this product.
