The amen break sample was awesome when I first heard it nearly ten years ago. Not so much now. Overused like nothing else.

i think the amen break is cult.
it can teach you a bunch of knowledge, if you are interested in drums or percussive music.
after a while of studying and when you feel more comfortable , go and replace the samples.

the amen break is still legit if you use it subtley, like using various hits in conjunction to others. theres no need to take that standard loop and just lazily mash it. experiment.

the AMEN break is one of the most sampled and important breaks of the last 10-12 years in dance music, and is found not just in D&B, but all breakbeat music genres. It is a good break to learn to cut up and use because it will allow you to understand how it is used and how to use other breaks to good effect. BUT seriously you should learn how to program breaks yourself, if you want crystal sound, and if you want to feel like YOU wrote YOUR music. Sampling is bullshit and for people who can't write original music. Unless you are multi sampling an instrument or original sound (not someone elses) of course which is a different matter. Why can't you do your own sound design? Why is everyone so obsessed with getting things quickly without putting in the hard graft first these days. If you want cool breaks make your own don't use Teds or Billies. Sorry for the rant. Be original.

Lord Khan: seriously have you listened to drum&bass recently, the good stuff, no one is using this break anymore.

but people generally don't use the same 5 second guitar sample in every other song in one particular genre of music.

I know. I listened to that album of his with all those hungarian names. The amen breaks really ruined the album for me. I was really hoping to hear some more original beats than the overused "fuck up an amen break in 180 bpm" thing. I'll admit that his amen cuts were some of the better ones I've heard though.

Honestly, most of that sounds boring to me - slice & dice the same lo-fi syncopated drumbeat? Maybe that's why so much ____core music sounds the same to me. It's a good beat, but damn - sounds like most people don't even use the more interesting part of it.

Use something else, be original.

PITCH IT UP A BIT AND LOOP IT FOR 12 HOURS

It rocks!
Suit #1: I mean, have you got any insight as to why a bright boy like this would jeopardize the lives of millions?
Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.
