File Manager slows down human evolution!

I finally tried to manage my Library. It won't do it because of the 'nested project' error, even though I cannot see any project folders in there.

Same problem here. It might as well give me a message that tells me there's a mouse in my basement...

Nested projects...

Didn't the Live 5 library have a folder named "Sets"?
Thus everybody who manually replace their libraries, is at least screwed by that folder.
Then you still need to locate all the other projects. Which ones? Where?

Has anybody actually ever been able to manage their library?
I don't even know how the library manager looks like. Never seen it.
I recently completed my first scan.. took 40 minutes to tell me something is wrong. Without being specific.
At least with missing samples you get an overview, how about an overview for nested projects?
See it as a feature to finally get some use out of a year old feature thats never been used.

I"m managing my Library as we speak!

I searched for .ico files via Windows Explorer, to locate the offending Project folders. Sure enough they were in there. Strangely one of the folders which contained one of them was invisible to the Live browser, and even Explorer, until you went to it directly via the search window. I don't quite understand that one

found about 80% of missing samples in one go (took about 10 mins to search - ~17Gb Library)

I found 1 project.cfg. Now doing the 40 minute scan again.

I've got it down to 7 missing samples in the Library. I think that's about as good as I'm going to get! It does take a hell of a long time both to scan initially, and to collect and save when you're done with a round of replacing.

I really wish the Management window had a 'refresh' or update feature, because you don't want to keep displaying all the samples you've already found.

Now 6 samples missing. And that's all I'm going to find, for sure.

However - this is disturbing: After finding and replacing ONE sample, it takes just as long to 'collect and save' as it did after replacing ~750 samples...

But again, wait 15 minutes to 'collect and save' ONE sample (dialog box however shows it saving a crapload of samples...)

and then I hit 'back' in the file manager to get to the main screen, and it still says 1 sample is external, so I hit 'collect'

and now it spends another 15 minutes saving the same big batch of samples again...

A Covert-Operators-Proof library is what we need

I find the missing file location process to be incredibly strange as
well, but I don't have nearly so many problems as reported here.

My Library is about 20 GB, but most (18GB) is the EIC.

The cache index looks like this:

It takes about 10 minutes to scan the library and I don't have
any missing samples.

When Live 6 came out I converted my library at that time
and tried to maintain it as I go.

It is very frustrating to find missing samples, but I just use
the internal browser to find things and choose manually.

All those other buttons and search options haven't worked
for me in any meaningful way. I tried to understand them,
but they just don't work in any way I can fathom.

I have found the most trouble to be in the various file formats
from different platforms. Apple projects and live sets tend
to have files named either 'x.aif' or just 'x'. On the PC,
these files usually have an aif extension, so the ones with
no extension appear as missing. But they are easily found
manually.

A bigger problem is that Live's own library has some files that
are the wrong extension.

(...E-Kick 7.wav is actually an AIFF file, not WAV...)

I don't know what 'exact match' means, but it doesn't
seem to include file extension.

I don't know what find in other found folders means,
but it doesn't work either.

No combination of these parameters seem to help
Live find things, so I just do it myself to avoid the frustration.

I had a lot of these, too. I just did a 'locate' and then
dragged all them (a few thousand) into arrangement view and
saved that Live Set.

No unused samples here.
