Going from 98 to XP will be a shock in a few ways, just so you are forewarned.

The interface is a bit annoying when you first use it. When I first switched from 98 to XP I ended up going through everything and changing it to look like 98, I'm not quite so picky now and since I know where things are moved to it isn't so bad.

You'll want to go through and remove a boatload of services. Some people here have suggested doing all the changes on www.blackviper.org, personally I think it is overkill. I like my system to still function properly for use other than music.

It is also important to feed the system as much memory as possible. XP is much better at dealing with memory and virtual memory than 98, plus it also likes to use both much more than 98. So while you could easily run 98 with 128MB - 256MB of memory, you'll really want 512MB for XP as a minimum. I've been considering upgrading my current system to 1GB because I know that my computer would love me for it

I'm still using Windows 98se. Gaspode's description doesn't make a move to XP sound very attractive so I'm wondering if anyone can suggest why such a move would be a good idea. The usual thing I hear is that XP is more stable but stability is not a problem for me on 98 so that wouldn't be a factor. Is there anything else ?
