I cut my teeth on Opcode Vision, then moved to Digital Performer and then to Logic. Now I am on Live 6 and I can honestly say it is the most creative DAW out there. Nothing else even comes close. It just doesn't get in my way. All the others slow my creative output down to the point of loosing the groove, but not Live.

Kudos Albeton Live team! You have created a work of coding art. I am now a Live devote. You freed me! I'd buy it all over again. Best money I have spent in years!
Live is great - but for me, Logic seems more creative - it allows for much more thanks to the environment and I just came across the crucial need for the list Editor - man, it looks like s***, feels exactly the same until the moment it is the only think that really gets you what you need easily ....
Never thought I will once say that a list editor is great - but it IS :)

but I really grew to love Operator - I have heard people argue that there are FM-synth with greater options around - and yes, true, but Operator has some features that are great - and super easy and fast to use. definitely stands up to Zebra2, Absynth, etc.

best

I am a prodigal son. I have used Cubase for the last 1 1/2 years. I just got so tired of using it. I'm very happy back in Live 6. I would like better audio editing. I don't like to have to rewire and bounce tracks to Cubase or need to use Sound Forge.

I used the demo while I was a big cubase/PT user backn' the day... with every time I used live slowly and gradually all other DAWs faded away...
I decided to sell cubase when Vst support was introduced in live4...then bought live... and never looked back
seriously , I do not miss them for 1 second...
I see my buddies work on cubase/logic ...drawing automations...
and just wanna throw up...
although there are a few quirks here and there
...Live is the Only DAW for me right now...

hey while you were gone... we got this thing called ...'flatten track' ...
So... just drag your audio clip to arrangement...cut it up or whatever... then 'freeze track' and afterwards 'flatten'... Viola... you can drag your edited clip wherever...your own audio editor within live ...times r changing mate...

+2
You never use quantization? Do either of you understand what a 'groove template' is, and how it intended to be used?

So you never just sketch a beat out by writing it in? By definition, that is using the quantization grid, and therefore 'rely on the software to be your performance' is true.

So every single beat you use is record audio that you performed, or midi (to impulse/battery) from an vdrums, or triggerfinger?
Cubase user for 12 years - groove templates and all. Don't miss em in Live.

Don't get me wrong, having groove templates would be nice, but I tend to play my stuff in (MIDI) these days, and then edit the grooves afterwards. It's just more fun.

I just got my Live 6 manual. What a wonderful world.
