The only non-dongle VST/AU ones for purchase I've found for Mac are Kjaerhus, Wave Arts and Sonalksis. Any others?

P.S. Yeah Dual-Comp totally blows so forget that one...

sonalksis sidechain doesn't work in Live., try the demo.
I tried WaveArt and it was ok. It's just kind of an overkill with an EQ and everthing, and I was hoping to not spend $200 on this.

You mean the SV-315 right? If so, that's dissapointing.
OK, I'm going to try it tonight and see if I can get it to work.

I DID try google. I also tried searching this forum. You try and google "sidechain compressor mac" and see what you find. (Teragon's dualcomp doesn't count, it sucks)
because when my ass searches for "sidechain vst osx" he finds alot of options..
within 0.17 seconds..
anyway; WaveArts is doing fine in Live..
good luck..

by "lots of options" you mean WaveArts and .....DualComp, no wait that sucks.....ok just WaveArts then.
alot of options = $200 WaveArts or $400 Reaktor

This is a "side chain / ducking effect emulator" FOLLO
secret sauce for many of us:
try the demo

the Follo is a filter. It doesn't affect amplitude directly like a compressor would.

Have you tried it?
It will give you that "French House" pump.

What kind of music do you make? If it's a 4x4 side chain or even a break type thing you can use the auto-pan trick
Your exact dilemma is one of the major factors in my decision to go with a windows based laptop - wavearts was way to expensive and there wasn't a truly economical solution - I just wanted a cheap side chain
anywayz try the auto pan gig as seen below - set your settings exactly and pump pump pump pump it up
