Got a Macbook since last November.
Goes very hot and fan whining when I have to use VmWare Fusion (I need it because OEM Sounddiver runs on Windows only) but apart from that, no problems at all.
Just 1 question : It's Applecare worth it? If i'm going to replace the thing anyway in 2 /3 years time and I'll be using it 80% at home?

I've got Apple Care but I've never had to use it.

Still, from what I've read from other people's experiences it sounds like it's better to have it than not. A lot of folks seem to use it at least once.

Even though I've never used Apple Care, I've been able to be a lot more confident about using my computer. I'd personally rather not have to worry about every little bump or nick, even in the house. But that's a personal preference. In my case peace of mind won out over however many yen on the Apple Care.

But there are plenty of ways to look at it and it's quite possible you may see it differently.

I didnt have apple care on my G4, and hey presto, a couple of days after the one year warrenty was oiut, the 17 inch screen died. I felt sick. It was going to be a thousand to fix. Luckily, I wrote a heart felt email to apple, and they took pity on me, extending my warrenty by a month!
Now, I allways buy applecare. Well worth it imo. Theyre soooo expensive to fix if somthing goes wrong.... not worth thinking about believe me!
Its like having house insurance. Sure, if it burns down youll be pissed, but at least you know youll have somewhere to live!

hahahahaha, fuckin bullshit got my new replacement today, it gets kernel panics when i try to install anything, or just at randon times for no reason. a kernel panic is when mac osx crashes and you have to restart. in all my years of using mac i have never had an os crash. so i guess all the web rumors are true. the new macbook pros are unstable pieces of shit that should not be on the market. anyone thinking of getting one should not. buy an imac with an ilugger bag instead. that is 2 in a row that were faulty. i am so pissed.

I just hopped over to the MBP forum, and you're thread is there. It's just on page two now.

Btw, have you checked out the threads there regarding Kernel Panics and the wirless airport? What you're going through totally sucks, and I'd be pretty upset if it happened to me too. A call to Apple Care explaining the situation and how upset you are might be a good idea.

They'll get you taken care of. Maybe they'll let you drop this one off and pick up a new one at a local Apple Store instead, because of you're situation. Once you do get a stable one, it will still be an awesome setup. I wouldn't totally throw the whole thing away and head in another direction just yet. Hardware fails, and maybe you just got two models from a bad design batch. I'd definitely have them test out the next system, either at an Apple Store or before they ship it to you.

If you speak with someone directly, they'll probably sympathize and want to help you. Apple employees are people just like us too, and want you to be happy with your investment. Not downplaying your situation, just trying to point toward some of the few positives around it.

i know apple will make it right. they were great last time. if they make it worth my while i will try it again.

i just got back from the genius bar at the mac store and they said it was faulty hardware. they tried to reinstall the os and it would not let them, it kept having panics. the head genius knew right away something was internally flawed.

i just think for apple sake this is not good. right now they have a lot of dedicated PC user converting over to mac, mistakes like this can drive someone back to pc's. i am a life long mac user so i have no choice, i will never buy a pc so i must go with mac. which is fine i love macs but do need a laptop and am not feeling secure right now about my options. i guess third time is a charm.

well just an update on this.

the two 2.3 ghz models they sent me that were bad was replaced by a brand new decked out 2.4ghz model.

i installed all my appz last night with no problems and it runs smooth. apple more than took care of the issue.

Man, I was thinking about picking up a 17" MBP with the 7200 rpm hard drive, and 4gigs of Ram. After reading this I am not so sure. Maybe I will buy it at the apple store to make sure it works out the door.
its all fun and games until someone looses an eye, then its just fun.

I'm pretty sure you can tell them your reservations, and they will schedule a time for you to set up uthe machine with the help of a Mac Genius... right out of the box.

Either way, Apple will fix any problems you might have with faulty hardware.
15" PB 2.5 Ghz, 4 Gig RAM, 750 GB HD, Live 9 still no cue points or program change messages?!?. Doesn't do shit.
